4 out of 5 eggsKingston SSD V300

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Solid, Cheap, Fast enough for me.

Cons: Satisfied with the price and performance

Other Thoughts: Replaced my boot drive for my desktop and laptop and cut down the start time to 15 sec in Windows 7 and 8 Sec. to Windows 8. I'm really satisfied with the performance of this SSD. It revived my 6 years old laptop. Price is pretty cheap, maybe one of the cheapest SSD when you find it on sale.

1 out of 5 eggsSala data connector broke of after 4 mos

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Memory worked fine until the plastic sata data connector broke off the drive case after 4 months. Memory no longer accessible. Will have to replace.

Cons: Do not know what caused the sata data connector to break off the SSD drive case. Happened after the 30 day return period. Trying to contact Kingston to see if they cover this with a warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Rex,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the V300 drive. If the connector fell off while in your computer case or seemed to have fell off while removing the SATA cable, we can replace the drive under it's three year warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsGood inexpensive SSD

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Boots Win 7 64 from push button to loaded desktop in 22 seconds. Has to load CCC, Malwarebytes, CCleaner and a few more.
The computer this SSD is in is just as "snappy" as my higher end rigs with Samsung and Intel SSD's.
Got it on sale for $45

Cons: Had to upgrade the firmware. Something was locking up system. Upgraded to latest firmware Rev. 525ABBF0 and everything seems fine now, no more lockups.

Be sure to follow the instructions.

Other Thoughts: Used in:
Intel Core i5 3470S
ASRock Z75 Pro3
Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB

Not as fast in benchmarks as higher end SSD's but for normal desktop use it's impossible to tell the slight speed difference.

5 out of 5 eggsGood boot drive

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Used this as a boot drive for a budget build, and it served that purpose well. I also installed a few frequently used programs on it (web browser, ect) and it still has plenty of space. This SSD improved the performance of the system immensely. It was originally running Windows vista off of a standard HDD, and being a low spec system, it ran like a snail. Now it's running Windows 8.1 off of this Kingston SSD and the speed difference is night and day. Widows boots withing 10-15 second of startup and the programs installed on the SSD start up almost instantly.

Cons: None so far.

2 out of 5 eggsA question for Jewel with Kingston

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I have a question for Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. It has now been well established that Kingston is presently using asynchronous NAND in the 120 and 240 models of the V300. I have not been able to find definitive information regarding this 60GB version.

Please be straightforward with the answer to this question to help potential buyers in their evaluation:

"Does this SV300S37A/60G model also currently ship with asynchronous NAND components?"

Cons: See possible con above but I'll wait the Kingston response.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support, here to answer your question and add some clarification. As you may already know, the V300 model is an entry level SSD designed to balance price and performance to do this we source both Synchronous and Asynchronous NAND from various Tier 1 NAND manufacturers. What this means is that all capacities of the V300 drive are built with either type of NAND, not solely asynchronous. Currently, the V300 in all capacities is being produced with either synchronous or asynchronous 20nm NAND. Despite the type of NAND in the V300, it will perform at it's advertised specifications. In order to provide a clearer picture of expected benchmark results we have included additional results showing a worst case scenario from AS SSD and Crystal Disk Mark in the V300's datasheet. If your planned usage of the SSD is to run the OS and applications be aware that a majority of that data is compressible and would not be noticeably affected by the type of NAND used in the V300. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Datasheet available here: http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/SV300S3_us.pdf

For a better understanding of the V300 overall performance, please see the V300 Benchmark Brief: http://media.kingston.com/support/downloads/V300_Benchmark_Brief_MKF_586.pdf

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks As Intended

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Pretty fast, slim, works well.

Cons: None really, other than what's in my "other" section.

Other Thoughts: I had a bit of an issue installing a fresh windows 7 x64 build on this drive, regardless of the drivers on hand and BIOS settings. Installed like a champ with fresh windows 8 though. I don't really feel this was the fault of the product though.

I had gotten this for a small project I was doing where I needed to mount a HDD in a really odd place with very little room. It defiantly does the job and hasn't failed on me yet.
