Does this come with cables ?

No, it plugs into your existing hard drive location. You may need a mount for it as it doesn't come with one and this drive is smaller than your mechanical hard drive.

Would you say 240Gb SSD like this is large enough for the OS drive? I do ALOT of gaming, video editing and web design so my Rig is a gaming/personal/work PC lol.. I would like to get something like this SSD for the OS and Software ( like Premiere Pro ) and then get a 7200Rpm SataIII 1/2TB HDD For games and Software that doesn't need the SSD speeds. And then using one of the HDD's I already have as a storage drive. ( SO I could Have OS and Video editing software & maybe the 1 main game im playing on the SSD and then for video editing the Raw files on another HDD and the exported files on another.)

Almost $200 is still alot for me to spend on just a Hard drive but if SSD's are as night and day as I have heard I might have to try and afford one.

You have the right idea.. go with it and you'll never look back! I go from power-on to a fully running desktop in 6 seconds flat (it was taking over a minute on a SATA 3 HDD). I would HIGHLY suggest waiting for a $159 sale on a drive that has a lot of really high reviews though (like the Kingston 240 is today). If you're going to spend $200, I'd go for the Samsung 840 Pro 256.

I've run a C:/D: configuration for years with C: holding the OS and programs and D: holding data.. (it makes it a LOT easier if you have to reload your system). I use to run 128GB C: partitions but have gone up to 256 with Win8 (so the transition to SSD was REALLY easy for me).

240GB should be plenty big enough for your OS and most of your software, including your games (to a point, of course.. games can get REALLY big!). Just do like you were saying and put your video (and data in general) on a HDD and leave the SSD to dealing with the OS (especially the pagefile and tmp files). If space does start to become an issue, most programs will let you chose where you install them so some of them can be installed on a different drive, too.

I am leaving enough room to put my video rendering temp files over there.. I've been dying to try that one out!

Does this product comes with 3.5" mounting kit?  Other review says it does, but it is not mentioned here.  Thanks.

No it does not come with a mounting kit. I have found many ways to mount them even if it is just one screw.  They are light and do not require much to hold them in place in a workstation especially since a workstation does not move like a laptop would.  Of course in a laptop mounting is not an issue.

I just want to be certain this package includes all cables, software, etc., needed to clone my existing drive to this one.
I do not need to purchase anything else with this package?

There is nothing but the drive! I was disappointed that there are no instructions, installation software, or cable that connects for USB transfer or cloning of the existing laptop drive. Reading other reviews seems to indicate people use EaseUS Todo free software but for a laptop I am still researching the best method to simply copy my existing drive to the SSD drive, and it appears it will take multiple steps. Some indicate their attempt failed to work, but I have no Windows installation disk to fall back on for a clean install of Windows 8 since it came on my Lenovo and I've upgraded to the latest 8.1. So far I am hesitant to get started!

What data migration software is recommended to migrate a laptop system?

The best migration software is LapLink PC Mover Professional.  After installing your operating system on the new computer, you can transfer data and, more importantly, your programs from the old computer to the new one without the need to reinstall each program assuming that you still have the installation software.  I have used this program numerous times and it is a great tool!

No it doesn't. But you can download Macrium Reflect Free Edition, and it's one of the best cloning and imaging products available. It even allows you to make a bootable CD or even a thumb-drive rescue media.

I used Macrium Reflect to clone my old hard drive onto my new Kingston SSD without a hitch.

can i use this drive for my desktop?

I ordered this drive for my laptop (Macbook Pro), installed it and absolutely love it.  It is incredibly fast.

Assuming that you have a SATA drive and either are going to replace a current drive or have open space, yes, based on my experience this works great in a desktop.

I have just installed a similar drive--the Crucial 480 GB drive ($230)--in my desktop (a Mac Pro, original model).  Using it in a desktop with an open 3.5 inch bay is really easy--I also bought the IcyDock EZ Convert Pro MB982SP-1S item N82E16 817994121 for $29 from Newegg to make this easier.  Essentially, you put the Kingston SSD into the IcyDock, close the IcyDock cover, and install the unit into any SATA slot just like a hard drive.

Can I install this in a desktop computer?

yes. some desktops have drive trays or special areas to mount an ssd. if yours does not then you might need an ssd carrier to put it in to fit in your system where a hard drive goes. then you need power and a sata port and cable. many of us set this drive up as a system drive for fast windows performance.

how much better is this ssd compared to a regular hard drive?

Its Great in the beginning but NOW 1 year later this drive is running slower than my WD Black secondary drive due to a problem with these Kingston drives. Kingston has admitted in their Faq that there is a performance decrease the v300 SSDNow drives. If you have an older SSD drive (Mine is a v300 240GB drive I bought roughly a year ago) that does not have effective Garbage Collection, SSD drive performance will drop over time. This is due to the way the system overwrites data that has been flagged for deletion. The only way to fix this is to reset your drive which basically means wipe it and reinstall everything or if you are lucky you can restore a backup image.

Does this purchase come with software to move an existing HD over? Like Acronis?

This version does not come with software. The upgrade series version of this drive comes with software to clone an existing HDD.
Newegg sells Acronis true image software to do the job as well as a USB to Sata adapter you will need if you do not have one.
Of course you can install your operating system directly to the new SSD using the system disk that came with your computer or new Win7 or 8.1 disk
