I want to replace internal HD by SSD in Lenovo Netbook, which does not have CD drive. So, how I will transfer data from old HD to new SSD?

The easiest way is to get recovery cds and install the SSD and install windows if your notebook doesn't have an cd drive you will have to buy an external. When the install is complete use the supplied USB hard drive enclosure to transfer the files. The best way is to use the supplied software or i like acronis true image. Both work well but if your notebook doesn't have an cd drive you will have to buy an external. The way i would do it is to use a desktop with available sata ports and Disc drive. the reason is using the usb interface for anything is very slow. Using the sata ports and depending the speed of the old hard drive it shouldn't take more than an hour to transfer everything. Using the supplied software or acronis true image it will put everything back the way it was before the ssd install. The desktop is the best option and Kingston has phone support but they are not very skilled technicians. There are a few things that might get you stuck but do your home work. The most important thing is that you need to check the sata operating mode most are in AHCI. and they have to be in the same mode on desk top and notebook. Make sure transfer the correct drive. I disconnect the desktops original hard drive. All you do is boot from cd and clone disk partitions. I have had this complete in 15 min or so on most drives. I charge $40 for imaging a hard drive. will this unit fit and work in my Toshiba laptop(satellite_pro_L500-EZ1520) with out any problems? and can i then use the old h/d in the case provided to run on a USB port?

Yes, as long as your laptop accommodates an SATA I, II, or III 2.5" form factor drive. Unfortunately the case can only be used to transfer the content of the original drive to the new SSD drive. The case can not be used with a hard drive as an "external Drive" as the information only flows in one direction and is not set up for index searches (individual files) or writing to the drive. If you wish to use your old drive as an external drive, you can purchase a 2.5" external hard drive enclosure from Newegg for around $8.75. I kept my old drive as a backup incase of a problem or I decide to sell my laptop. I hope this was helpful.

Does the cloning software support paartition types used by other operating such as LINUX (ex ext3 or ext4)?

Hi Kaye B, I did not use the Acronis True Image but I would say
'Yes'. I prefer to do a clean install instead. A simple search in Google will bring up all kinds of Q&A regarding this. The following was found on the Acronis web site.

This software product from Acronis can be run on several different versions of Linux. Supported operating systems include Fedora Core 1&2, Red Hat 9, Red Hat Advanced Server 3.0, Novell's SuSE 9 and Mandrake 9.2. Acronis reports that they are working on versions that will work with other Linux products. Acronis True Image 9.1 works with a wide variety of files systems such as Linux SWAP, Linux Ext2&Ext3, NTFS, XFS, JFS, ReiserFR, FAT16 and FAT32.
These are great little SSD's as I have 2 now with one running over 2 years. The 120GB is used for the OS only, paired with a 500GB used for data (videos) only in a Home Theater PC. My 64GB SSD is used in an older Sony Laptop. Still running great. Hope this helps.
