WOW, What a Bargain!!
- Pros: I was skeptical at first because I had not heard of manufacturer. But poked around internet and thought it was worth a shot. I found best price including UPS ground shipment at Newegg. Ordered it on 5/4 and received it on 5/7. Opened the box and read small page of instructions and connected drive to an internal Sata port. Turned the drive on and then booted my computer. Checked MY COMPUTER and there it was as my G drive ready to accept data. I copied 3 backup Acronis tib files from my 200 gb drive to the Cavalry drive. Zoom, zoom, zoom as the commercial goes. Three files of over 30 gb transferred in 9 minutes, 3 gb per minute. I erased filkes and was then able to drag and drop files from my other 2 internal disks to Cavalry with no problems. I then disconnected Sata interface and connected USB port. Same successful results. As a Final test I connected it to my Laptop via USB port and again had not problems with this drive.
- Cons: None at this point. Can't say enough good things about this drive.
- Other Thoughts: It's black, little larger than paperback book, on/off switch, blue light indicating status(of/on) and activity and quiet and cool even with fan running. Also has on/off switch for fan.Fits snugly into black plastic stand.Later discovered through XP device manager that actual drive under the covers is a Western Digital 500 gb Sata 1 drive. Outstanding value for $128 plus $8 shipping.
Use the mount - seriously.
- Pros: eSata or USB offers versatility. Compact design and solid color looks nice on any desktop.
- Cons: Fan is a bit weak if mounted flat, but adequate if mounted vertically.
- Other Thoughts: I used to marvel at how hot this drive got when I used it. I'd even turn it off when I wasn't actively saving or loading data just so it could cool down. Then one day I went to the box and dug out that silly mount that it came with. Tah dah! Now this drive stays as cool as a cucumber and the mount actually fits nice and snug. My only complaint is that when I plugged it into the eSata adapter (extends sata port on the mobo to a slot in the back of your tower), it wouldn't connect and I had to use the USB as a backup. With my new mobo, there's already a Sata port on the back, which works perfectly. So, it could have been my old computer and not the adapter that was a fault.

Awsome eSATA is FAST
- Pros: It has eSATA that I finally got to try with my new mobo that has 2 on the back. Is not too big and bulky. It is a seagate HD inside which is not bad!
USB 2.0 = 20MBps or less lol. eSATA = 60-70 MBps or more! which is about right for eSATA cause SATA can only really write at about 80MBps Max. SATA can READ at 300 MBps in burst but not write lol.
- Cons: Power cord is very bad! I had to bend the metal outwards to get a conect to my wall outlet, and sometimes it still wont get power but I have like 25 other power adapters from other things. I am gonna see if one will fit it. Also one thing you should know about eSata is it is not plug and play like USB. If you are buying it for the eSata don't send it back as soon as you see it does not just plug in and go. You have to keep just the esata plugged into the PC, have it on, and restart the PC. Then go into the BIOS and see if your computer detected it. It should say something like seagate 250 as your 2nd choice for SATA HD's. then restart again and it should work in windows just like a charm!
- Other Thoughts: I got the 250 GB ver. for 50$ free shipping. LOL only have about 105 gigs of stuff on it so far. Unless you are going to be putting Blue Ray movies on here, this is all you need for your music, vids, programs, ect...
Happy
- Pros: Wasn't sure about "Cavalry" but took a shot at it. This has performed very well for me for over a year. I use both the USB and eSata interfaces. eSata is very fast. 500GB was a tremendous amount of space when I purchased this.
- Cons: The fan is a bit loud and creates vibrations, but there is a nice switch to turn it off! I don't leave this drive plugged in; if I did, I would probably move it off my desk.
Cavalry CAXM 500GB
- Pros: Very easy setup/install, eSATA bracket included, really quiet, large capacity, computer detected eSATA drive immediately, fast transfers with eSATA, USB/eSATA cables included, drive stand is sturdy.
- Cons: Blue LED is really bright!
- Other Thoughts: I bought this to backup my computer files so I can reformat/reload my main drives, then was planning on putting it on my Scientific Atlanta DVR for extra capacity. Now I've decided to leave it on my computer for weekly backups and order another one for the DVR.
I have my computer plugged into an APC UPS with "master contolled" outlets that shut off peripherals when it "senses" the computer shut down. I have the Cavalry drive plugged into one of those outlets so it shuts off/turns on with the computer. Otherwise it would be on all the time unless I shut it off manually.
