1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 14 Months

Pros: Price. eSata port

Cons: eSata port rarely worked, slow transfer speeds, 1 year warranty, loses partition tables easily making data unreadable and unrecoverable for a non-technical user.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive b/c of the price & eSata port. I found out that the eSata port rarely works so I was forced to use the USB port which is painfully slow for backing data. I mainly used it to backup my clients files when repairing their computers. After about 14 months it lost the partition tables which rendered the data unreadable to an individual who does not know how to (or have the money to purchase software to read data off a failed drive). Considering I had very important files this is a disaster. I was lucky enough to get some of the files off of it. Today I went to get the remaining files off & when I plugged it in it started to maed the clicking of death & other strange noises. The operating system doesn't recognize the drive in disk management. I am now out of my money for this drive & have lost some very important files. Many users are complaining the drive fails after 14 months aka 2 months past the warranty. I would suggest another drive even if it costs more

Cons: Slow transfer speed

Other Thoughts: This is good for storing things that you don't need to transfer quickly.

2 out of 5 eggsFailing 15 month later

Pros: Low price lots of space

Cons: Failing less than 2 yrs old, used as a back up with limited hours of use in past 15 months.

Other Thoughts: I found it interesting there was a manufacturer response to another review which claims the product was released in November of 2010, but my invoice is for May 2010.

Was not worth the cost and frustration of getting all the data onto the drive and now having to find a new back up storage option.

Pros: Low price, multiple IO options.

Cons: Failed at 15 months, shortly after 1 year warranty expired.

4 out of 5 eggsNice HDD

Pros: Worked well out of the box using eSATA on a 2008 Mac Pro with a Highpoint card. Used Truecrypt to encrypt the entire drive, which took several hours, and it's running like a champ. Rebate made it all very affordable.

Cons: Only 1TB. eSATA not hot-swappable (causes a kernel panic).

Other Thoughts: I would definitely buy another Cavalry product for any future external storage needs.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy this

Pros: Big HD little price

Cons: Original HD stopped working after a few DAYS. Spent the money to send it back to cavalry. And now the replacement has stopped working afetr a couple months. Not sure if it's worth sending in AGAIN.

1 out of 5 eggsLousy product & product support

Pros: cheap price

Cons: Well after 2.5 yrs it finally bit the dust. I was able to read but not write so I got my data off it. I'm not sure how long you should expect a HD to last. This was used for backups and most of time it was off and stored in the closet. Probably had less than 50hrs operating time. Of course an RMA from Calvary was denied.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Sir or Madam,

The CAXH was introduced in November of 2010 and as such has not been on the market for 2 years, let alone 1 year. We do offer warranty replacements for qualifying products which have been purchased within 1 year's time. As a result, all CAXH units are currently under warranty.

You must have mistakenly left this review for a different product. Please contact Cavalry Support if you are in fact the owner of a faulty CAXH; we would be more than happy to provide warranty service to any and all CAXH customers as of 8/15/2011!

3 out of 5 eggsNot Bad, Good Price

Pros: Affordable, USB and ESata =D. Been working good for quite some time.

Cons: For some reason, it will randomly disconnect while I am transfering folders over. Had 200Gb folder and halfway through it disconnected even though the cables were connected.... Maybe its going bad?? Idk. Red light would appear when it happened. I just turned it off and then turned it back on. Seems to work. For now...

Other Thoughts: Great price at the time, still love this thing

1 out of 5 eggsLasted 3 months

Pros: Low cost, compact, easy setup

Cons: Not good for a Mac. I used it as a Time Machine for my Macbook Pro. Problem is it lost its connection every time the Macbook went to sleep.
I bought it February 27th, it died ("Error: Disk Utility can't repair this disk") today, May 24th.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Has given me no trouble whatsoever. Nice that it includes an external eSata plate and cable. It's also nice that someone figured out that hard drives should be designed to lay flat (although it does come with a stand, if you can avoid knocking it over). I like the simple, black styling (but see cons on finish).

It's quieter than my internal drive (probably because it's slower). The "chunk" or "click" sounds sound lower than most hard drives. Runs cool enough.

Cons: The casing has a mirror finish that shows dust and fingerprints easily.

The logo on the front is a bit chintzy. The case is generic with a square area on the front with red/blue indicator lights behind it. Cavalry printed up a clear plastic logo silhouette and glued it in this spot, but the edges of the cutout aren't polished at all (rough and fuzzy). It just looks cheap, but who really cares...

The wall wart is ridiculously wide. It will not cooperate on a power strip. I would prefer the adapter to be in the middle of the cord, laptop-style.

Other Thoughts: I use this along with Cobian Backup to do nightly backups of my desktop.

Buy it. It's simple and solid.
