1 out of 5 eggsGarbage lifespan

Pros: It's external storage

Cons: It died and I lost all of my data I had ever worked on. Later I bought a 3 TB external mybook from WD and it crashed as well, both at around a year. I would have RMA'd it but you can't really do that with a product that has all of your life's work on it without losing it. I'm on my 3rd WD external drive, another 3TB WD MyBook, and it has somehow lasted for now, about a year so I'm getting worried again

Other Thoughts: I would get Seagate drives but I don't know if they're any more reliable

1 out of 5 eggsHope They Stopped making these

Pros: Easy USB connect and good for temporary backup of smaller hard drive or windows or movies. No more than this.

Cons: Cannot stand up to constant use. Worst IT product I have purchased in last ten years. I have bought three of these and ALL failed in less than one year. I had an RMA for one and the replacement only lasted six months. I was only able to salvage half the data and lost some digital family pictures that I have yet to find on my oter drives.

Other Thoughts: I cannot fatham why Western Digital allowed these past Quality control/Assurance. Worst IT product I have purchased in last ten years. Their other WD products have always worked great for me.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent lifespan

Pros: I bought this drive roughly 5 years ago. 500 gigs was the biggest they had then. Over the years I have dropped it many times, slammed it on its side while it was writing, and kicked it hundreds of times over the course of its service (because it was located next to my feet under the desk). If this mybook was a child, I'd have gone to jail due to the abuse I've given it.

But alas, today is a sad day, for I've decided to retire this bad boy. Even though it's still running strong, I've decided to get bigger drives. Thinking back on all the years we've spent together puts a tear to my eye. It's like my little brother I always liked to pick on. I thank you for the years of excellent service as I lay you to rest inside my closet, half hoping that I will one day need to bring you back into service.

Cons: It still works! Now I can't retire it without feeling guilty!

2 out of 5 eggsBuy with Caution!

Pros: Lots of storage space. Quiet.

Cons: Short lifespan.

Other Thoughts: It works great... when it works. I have used this product as file storage for pictures and documents for about a year and a half. Then one day it got very hot and died. This seems to be a common thing with this product.

4 out of 5 eggsgood but...

Pros: Yeah it works for simple storage device.

Cons: Don't use as a back up system. This uses FAT32. This is the equivalent of 4G on NTFS system. I couldn't back up after restoring win xp sp3 install... just wouldn't fit.

2 out of 5 eggsCheap drive with a short lifespan

Pros: Inexpensive and relatively quick for transferring data.

Cons: Drive failed a few months after the warranty expired. I've purchased a number of external hard drives and unfortunately this drive was one of the shortest lived. Considering comparable costs from its competitors, it has the shortest warranty (Maxtor and Seagate both have a 5 year warranty on their drives). It also has a tendency to get very warm while running.

Other Thoughts: If you're considering this drive, I'd recommend investigating other manufacturers with a longer warranty. There is nothing this drive does that others don't do just as well and at the same speed. The included software was nothing to write home about. Consequently, you're better off with another manufacturer who'll at least stand behind their product for a longer period of time.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: easy to use cheap

Cons: Do NOT depend on this drive for backup of important data it is not dependable, cheaply manufactured, support is replace only all data lost. I don’t know if it is because of lack cooling or it just not stable in the case. In any case it dose not hold up very well and if you are depending on it you will be sadly disappointed.

Other Thoughts: Spend a ;ittle more and get some quality

5 out of 5 eggsi win...

Pros: got this with a $30 off promo code which made it an unbeatable deal. 500 gig external for under $100!? cant beat that!

Cons: doesnt have eSata. cant remove HDD from enclosure without voiding warrenty. its a PITA to remove them from WD enclosures anyway. 1 year WD warrenty...weak

Other Thoughts: search google for newegg promo codes and search around for some good ones. came across the $30 off one for this and jumped right on it! great deal!
