5 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: Bought this in '07 still running strong. Although I don't use it anymore do to its small size, I never had issues with it.

Cons: none

3 out of 5 eggsDied 1 month after the warrenty ended

Pros: It was a good drive when it worked...

Cons: I had this drive for a year and one month, and then it died, lost all my data backup. It came with a one year warranty, lot of help that did.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth every Penny.

Pros: Plenty of storage space: 64MB is used by it's pre-installed drivers and such, but that hardly scratches the surface with 120GB behind it's belt.
Universal usage: Runs on XP, Vista, Even OS X. Won't run on 98, but that's only a minor inconvenience.
Wonderful price: even after the 2-year warranty and taxes, I believe it's worth every penny.

Cons: Transfer cable length: The cable packaged with the item is too short. My external would be dangling from the top of my tower if I used it. Thankfully, finding a longer cable was no hard fix.
Unknown issues: For some reason, It does not like my home PC. My father and I belive it might be because we only have USB 1.1 ports, but it could very well be the fact that the external drive comes in FAT32 format and our internal drives are NTFS format.

Other Thoughts: This drive deserves the rating I gave it because the short cable is not a horrible problem, and the fact that my home computer is just out of date. I have heard that dropping the drive will kill it, and i've been super careful. it has only sustained a 1-inch drop at most, and it works fine. the shape is akward. the top surface is glossy and gets smudged/scratched easily. the power light is bright, but not completely distracting in a dark room.

2 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

Pros: Worked flawlessly...

Cons: ...until one day I plugged it in to my Boss's computer, and it started doing the "click" thing, and I found that by flipping the drive upside down the drive worked. Made me think that it was simply a bad cord/contact issue with the USB cord. But I've tried others. No go.

1 out of 5 eggs0 for 2

Pros: Newegg's customer service. -The best in the biz

Cons: If you need something to do becuse you're bored, order a WD Passport HD. The first was solid for 29 days! The second HD only made it 21 days. There will not be a third.

Assessment: Both HDs powered when CXd to a USB2 port, however no OS could see the device. It appears to be an electrical/hardware anamoly. Both were tested on multiple PCs with varying OS's (Win2003, XP32, XP64, Vista32, Ubuntu32) and with alternate USB cables. I have worked in IT for >8yrs and assure this is not a pilot error. Other USB devices work fine in all (8) of the tested PCs. The problem is with this drive. The drive does power and spins just fine. It will not list in Device Manager or Drive Management on any PC or OS. Neither were exposed to any harsh elements, power spikes, misconfigured FWs, Adware or AV filters.

4 out of 5 eggsperfect until dropped

Pros: small, ultra portable, lots of storage capacity for size, looks great, reliable when treated with a modicum of care

Cons: ceased to work after it fell from a height of about 3.5 feet onto a marble floor

Other Thoughts: wish it were a bit more durable, but I liked it well enough to replace it with the 250 GB model

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought this to relieve my laptop's undersized HDD. Filled it up in no time with movies and pictures. Multiple plugging in, unplugging, no data loss or death. I've even dropped it a few times onto carpet, no loss. The blue light doesn't bother me, but during use out of the corner of your eye it will blink every minute or so - don't worry, you're not going crazy.

Cons: The same as every one else - it scratches easily. The chord is pretty short, but I've always been able to plug it in and set it in front of my laptop keyboard, or on top of a PC case. No power off switch, so make sure you close everything looking at this HD before you unplug it.
