Quiet - WD's exclusive WhisperDrive technology with SoftSeek algorithms make this the quietest 2.5-inch hard drive, regardless of spin speed.
Reliable - WD's ShockGuard technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. WD's DuraStep Ramp locks the heads in a secure position away from the disk to provide another layer of protection when the drive is not in use. Utilizing the most technologically advanced material available, the drive can perform a minimum of 600,000 load/unload cycles without contamination - up to twice the performance of its competitors.
Rugged - WD Scorpio's rigid stainless steel top cover withstands more than 5 pounds of pressure - nearly 1.5 times the industry average - without pinching vital internal components.

3 out of 5 eggsNot really sure how I should rate this

Pros: I have been dealing with NewEgg for over a decade. Their CS is great, and shipping is very consistent. I live on the East coast, and shipping by “snail mail” always takes a week; You can set a watch by it.

Cons: I am going to CA for a trip, and my laptop decided to flake out on me. I ordered a new HD several days ago with expedited shipping and delivered it to CA thinking that it would make it there before I would (normal 1 day shipping route from their warehouse). I could get off the plane, image/swap the HDs, and start to work. Tonight I received notice that the item just shipped from MA. I didn’t realize that it was a 3rd party purchase, and had to use a competitor’s website to determine vendor location. I can understand today’s vendor purchasing model where 3rd parties drop ship, but I bought from NewEgg thinking the item was going to ship from there. There is no tracking information at this time, so it is possible that the HD is overnighted and will arrive within 5 days of purchase, but I am doubtful. I have passed the point of no return, so when I land I will understand my next move. I have used NewEgg to bail me out of jams before, and it is a shame that they were not able to this time.

5 out of 5 eggsComputer fixed

Pros: Good price, very easy to install, no special configuration required, fast write, restored life to a 10 year old Powerbook

Cons: It's PATA, but that's a limitation on the intended use, not the product. No complaints.

Other Thoughts: This hard drive restored functionality to a long-useless Titanium Powerbook G4 at an affordable price. So far I am very happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsGood solid hard drive

Pros: Nice solid hard drive for my "fleet" of IBM X30, X31 and X32 laptops. I have used 5 of these so far in the family fleet. All have performed flawlessly, and successfully got 2 kids through college with the laptops they went with.

Cons: None. You never know for sure, but 5 of these have been flawless so far.

Other Thoughts: I originally bought 2 of these WD, 2 Samsung, and 2 Hitachi. Only the "fleet" of WD's is still going strong!

2 out of 5 eggsFailed after 17 months

Pros: I own six computers but until now haven't had a failed hard drive in about 15 years, probably because I only buy hard drives that have five year warranties, usually WD Black and Velociraptor drives. I made an exception for this hard drive, and it failed after only 17 months in my Thinkpad.

The hard drive was fine while it lasted. I had no complaints. It was quiet and reasonably fast. However when it died, it was abrupt. Suddenly I heard a loud chirping noise. I powered off the Thinkpad and when I powered it back up, the hard drive was dead. The BIOS didn't recognize it, and neither did Western Digital diagnostic software and other diagnostic software.

There were warnings that something was wrong. I ran chkdsk several times during the 24 hours before the disk died and it found errors, but Western Digital diagnostic software reported that the disk was fine.

Cons: Died suddenly

Other Thoughts: This failure cost me a huge amount of time in recovering from it. Saving a few dollars buying a Blue instead of a Black drive just isn't worth it.

I'm sending this drive back to WD under the warranty, but in the future I'll stick to WD drives with five year warranties.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Problem in Dell Insperon 8600

Pros: Used to replace a failed HDD in a Dell Insperon 8600 and it has worked great for 2 years now

Cons: Price. Old tech can be expensive as options narrow

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: Going on it's third year of very heave use. Most of the time the HDD is full. It went with me to Iraq and was extreme conditions. I abuse this computer/HDD and it still just keeps going strong with very little bad sectors.

Cons: it has a few bad sectors after 2+ years but not that big of a deal with all of the torture I put it through

Other Thoughts: great buy

3 out of 5 eggsnice while it lasted (10 months)

Pros: Performed well with no issues, up until it refused to reboot: hard fail with no warning. Even spinrite could not even attempt to revive it.

Cons: Not that long of a lifespan.

Other Thoughts: Still under warranty. I expect to get a free replacement from WD.

3 out of 5 eggs"Nice while it lasted"

Pros: installed this drive in a friends Dell Inspiron 9300 to replace the original 40GB drive. Nice drive while it worked. Then the dreaded day when it wouldn't boot up. At least I was able to recover the data.

Cons: died after only 15 months. It's been a long time since I seen a failed HD. I'll be sending it back to WD for a new drive.
