Features

Features
Quiet - WD's exclusive WhisperDrive technology with SoftSeek algorithms make this the quietest 2.5-inch hard drive, regardless of spin speed.
Reliable - WD's ShockGuard technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. WD's DuraStep Ramp locks the heads in a secure position away from the disk to provide another layer of protection when the drive is not in use. Utilizing the most technologically advanced material available, the drive can perform a minimum of 600,000 load/unload cycles without contamination - up to twice the performance of its competitors.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb Laptop Upgrade

Pros: Replaced orig laptop 80gb hd with the WD2500BEVE Scorpio Blue back in 2007-8ish. Installation of HD, WinXp and drivers all went without a hitch. HD runs quiet and has fast seek-read-write.This laptop went through hard use from MD, south to FL, and west to Texas for areas ravaged by storms.Laptop would run near 24/7 due to traveling, gps locating. running routes, generating reports, spreadsheets, invoicing, numerous payrolls, numerous plant blue-prints. contracts, and yes pc games. Great investment. Tough HD, tough laptop.

Cons: Absolutely "0" cons.

2 out of 5 eggsEarly failure

Pros: Reliable while it was working.

Cons: Failed in 9 months when run infrequently

Other Thoughts: it doesn't seem that any PATA drives are reliable any longer. This presents a bit of an issue trying to replace them.

1 out of 5 eggsThanks for Nothing

Pros: Hard to find many pros on this purchase. I have dealt with New Egg many times and will in the future. But Will not buy a Western Digital product right away

Cons: Western Digital was all about selling these drives. Rma one out that failed after 2 months and they ship you a used drive. That is what they think of their customers.
I think enough of my customers to never buy Western Digital again

Other Thoughts: Hey Western Digital if you built a dud stand behind it and at least ship us a new dud

1 out of 5 eggsSinging The Blues

Pros: Fast turnaround on RMA

Cons: Purchased this drive new from a local dealer. Transferred all my important files over to it in a encrypted container. Dummy me thought this is a new drive I don't have to back it up right away. Ive always had good luck with WD drives... so i unplugged it after loading it & put it in my safe approx 2 months from foam case at store & it wont spin up... Click of death.... Got a recertified drive on RMA and it died after 1 week of getting it.. Didn't bother ReRMAing it threw it in the scrap pile... Will never purchase another WD 2.5" drive...

Other Thoughts: Wished I had purchased from Newegg.... Price is WAY lower than Local dealers..... Will be buying from in the future....

2 out of 5 eggsBOOTless 2.0

Pros: CORRECTION
only 24% of these drive reviews have problems.
I put this in an external enclosure and have been testing it as a storage drive. it works well, no problems
this makes me wonder if the problem is with the hardware or elsewhere (bios/firmware/HD controller/etc.)

Cons: this does not change my opinion.
1/4 of the reviews are bad, most with the same problem (boot fail)
mine was only in use for 3-4 months before boot failure.
bought this as a primary/boot drive and it did not last.

Other Thoughts: works as a storage drive, OK
but if I wanted a storage drive I would have bought one, also a sata, not a pata.
fix the BOOT problem and I would recommend this drive.
my system - gateway 400sd4 (2002)

5 out of 5 eggsIncreased Capacity

Pros: 250GB is plenty of space for my old laptop.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have been restoring an old Dell laptop and I upgraded from 40GB to this 250GB and now I have plenty of space for my OS and documents, music, videos, etc.

5 out of 5 eggsgood drive

Pros: I use it for backup/storage, it does the job.

Cons: None I know of.

Other Thoughts: I can't say anything about reliability since it's sitting in the drawer 99% of the time as my backup/storage drive.

1 out of 5 eggsthe little drive that could'nt BOOT

Pros: good shape and weight for throwing......

Cons: READ the reviews (three eggs or less)
this drive went bad for 81 people including me.

Other Thoughts: I don't know when I bought it.
(the date on the drive is 03 AUG 2009)
in three days,
six CLEAN installs,
six failures to BOOT.
222 good reviews and 81 bad reviews,
36% of these drives fail or have problems.
went bad to my OLD 60gb drive. no problems at all.

2 out of 5 eggsNG as 3rd drive in older laptop

Pros: High capacity.

Cons: Runs hot.

Other Thoughts: Took down my IBM A31p laptop. I had it installed as the 3rd HDD in the right-side ultrabay, with 3 partitions, no OS, data only. Seemed to run fine, but then the computer had trouble rebooting. Finally died. I was able to get the computer fixed -- I/O controller on the Mobo had failed. When it came back, screen started blinking, got "battery failure" msgs even tho no battery was installed, etc. Finally tracked it down to the WD 250. Put it in left bay generates a "no operating system found" error; computer thinks the drive is a floppy with an OS on it. Had a WD 120 in same bay on another computer with no problem. There is no documentation anywhere about this. DO NOT USE as a 3rd internal HDD. It works fine in an outboard enclosure by Firewire or USB.

1 out of 5 eggsLasted 53 days

Pros: It is 250Gb. It is made of metal and plastic. It shipped in a box. I like turtles. (All PROs)

Cons: Lasted 53 days from date of purchase. Died 23 days out of return to Newegg. I HAVE HAD OVER 4 WESTERN DIGITAL DRIVES FAIL IN 4 DIFFERENT SYSTEMS over the years.

Other Thoughts: Live Chatting with a newegg Reg as I type, so I will let you know how it goes in 20 seconds...

...OK. Newegg is RMAing a replacement so I don't have to deal with Western Digital Refurbed QA. WESTERN DIGITAL Quality assurance is HORRIBLE at best. I received one replacement drive via WD warranty and it looked like it had physically been dragged across the concrete and the solder joints were so sloppy it looked as though a blind person got in a rush. I made them send me another replacement and they upgraded the capacity to compensate, but still REFURBED.

NEWEGG TOOK CARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND FOR THAT I THANK NEWEGG...NOT WD.

Newegg is a great company and has great representatives. Geaux Newegg!!
