5 out of 5 eggsFive Years - Still Running Strong

Pros: Durability, Easy to Use

Cons: It's certainly not fast, but USB 2.0 is the limitation - not the drive itself.

Other Thoughts: You buy an external drive, it runs for more than five years, that's a win.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor quality

Pros: Big brand name.

Cons: Failed after very little use. I used this drive very sparingly over the past several years, never setting it up to do duty as a regular backup drive. I tried to back up info to it a few days ago, and it is crapping out. It only maintains a connection to the computer for about 15 seconds, then loses the connection, then reconnects.

Other Thoughts: I am usually happy with WD products.

5 out of 5 eggsDependable and decent drive

Pros: Sleek design with piano black case. Simple and easy set up and it also spins down the HDD when not in use saving power and also wear and tear on the HDD.

Cons: The USB cable they give you is a bit short and its a Mini B type connector for the drive instead of a standard B type connector which isn't really a con but with the amount of regular B type cables that I have and with the size of the unit the choice of the connector makes no sense in my mind.

Other Thoughts: I haven't tried any of the software available on it. I just deleted it all. I'm sure it works fine. I haven't run into any trouble on it. For those who do you probably just are one of the unlucky few where probability doesn't go your way and you get a unit that passed QC but is destined to die due to some minor mechanical or electronic fault in the device. Everyone gets a dud or dead electronic once in their lifetime and sure sometimes its because there is a serious electronic or mechanical fault in the device but other times there are millions of other users who's devices work fine its just that your one of the unlucky ones where probability doesn't swing your way.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful

Pros: Extremely fast transfer speed, very quite, no set up required much like a flash drive.

Cons: Having to plug the drive into its own electrical outlet but I knew about this going into it.

Other Thoughts: Great price for a great drive

1 out of 5 eggsNo good for back-ups

Pros: The only pro is that is a decently big drive for not a lot of money.

Cons: I've owned this for over a year, I've used it as a back-up drive. A couple months after I bought it I had my first problem, it would freeze up when ever I went into a folder, it didn't matter what computer I was on, I ran multiple virus checks that found nothing so I just decided to reformat it.

After that the drive worked fine for about a year, then out of nowhere my computers and ps3 stopped reading it, the lights will not come on and I'm stuck with this big paper weight with all my back-ups most likely completely destroyed.

Other Thoughts: I think it has a warranty but I'll probably never be able to recover my files that are pretty important to me.

2 out of 5 eggsSame as everyone else

Pros: Worked great at first. Copied at great speeds. Held all my files, looks nice, doesn't take up much space, worked great straight out of the box and overall worked well.

Cons: Just like everyone else, it decided to s!#$t out on me. All of a sudden it stopped working pretty much out of the blue. It started with having problems loading files and then stopped letting ones be copied to them. After that it started doing the ticking of death and I should have taken this all as a red flag to get my files off of it but it was too late.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for longevity in a product, I'm afraid Western Digital isn't the way to go. This is the second External harddrive I have owned from them and this is the second time I've had this problem. From the other reviews I've read, it seems to be a problem for everyone else so I'm afraid that this is a little more than a run of bad luck. Maybe 100 bucks isn't a lot for people to just give away for a product but if I shove out that much money for a something, I want it to last a little longer than 8 months. I'm afraid this is the last Western Digital I'm going to buy. And that sucks in my opinion because, they have pretty much coined the market on sleek small externals that hold insane amount of memory.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks!

Pros: It does the job, what more can you ask for?

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: It's difficult to crack this thing open to access the drive (but that's not a con, as you are not supposed to do this)...you will likely break some of the plastic in the process
