5 out of 5 eggsTakes A Beating Like A Champ

Pros: I've owned this drive for 5 years, and gave it a lot of abuse. I've thrown it into backpacks, traveled with it, thrown it on the table, dropped it multiple times from desk height. The drive never skipped a beat. The last time I dropped it the plastic casing unsnapped , producing a gap in the body. I taped it up tight, and the drive kept on working. I couldn't be more impressed.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: This experience further cements WD's good name in my book.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked well until it died

Pros: Worked great while it lasted.

Cons: Drive died after about a year, at first I would have to unplug it and plug it back in constantly to get it to be recognized. Then eventually it would not work all together. It constantly would shut down or lose connectivity. Warranty is shoddy too.

Other Thoughts: Wouldn't tell anyone to buy this drive.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: This drive works like a hard drive should. It stores data. Sure, it could be faster, but it's USB. It is what it is.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Fingerprints? This is an issue? I've never even looked at the outside of the drive. It sits on top of my case and acts as a nice little backup drive for stuff I don't want to lose, or don't access that often. This was a solid little purchase.

3 out of 5 eggsUses a lot of power

Pros: Sleek-looking, glossy-black finish and very portable size. Decent price for the capacity. Comes with optional encrytion software written on drive.

Cons: The Passports apparently demand a lot of power from the computer's USB bus. I plugged it in and it effectively crashed my computer. Then when I got it to work I received nothing but write delay failures when copying data. Finally realized that it was overpowering my USB bus. Unplugged every other USB device and STILL received multiple copying errors but could at least copy data. Only after plugging into powered USB hub did it work properly.

Other Thoughts: I REALLY wish that these Passports came with a self-powering option with an A/C adapter, like the My Books do. Used My Book with my computer and didn't experience any difficulties at all. Passports should be designed allowing the user the option for either self- or bus-powered use.

1 out of 5 eggsMac Users BEWARE!

Pros: Small, compact and sleek.

Cons: Does not work with my Mac PowerBook G4.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this if you are using an older Mac computer. Drive does not pull enough power to mount.

5 out of 5 eggsntfs reformat but good

Pros: Works as advertised.

Cons: Did have to reformat so that I could get a file larger than 4GB on it, but that was expected since it came FAT32.

Other Thoughts: not currently.

5 out of 5 eggsWD means quality.

Pros: Nice price, nice size, quiet, and fast.

Cons: Can't plug it into peripheral USB drives. You know, like if a usb is split into four ports? Ut won't work there. Not enough power to fully spin up.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nice size.

Cons: I could not get this device to work on either of my PC's. During file transfers, the Passport would produce "Delayed Write Errors" in Windows. All of my other external USB drives work just fine.

Other Thoughts: Too bad..as I'm a WD fan...but I'm going to try a Seagate next.
