5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 1To in Raid1
Nearly silent
Decent firewire 800 speed with my imac 27inch late 2009 -editing photos and stuff

Cons: Takes forever to startup, cheap plastic case, weird noise on startup - doesn't really matter if all you want is a reliable/cheap raid1 storage.

4 out of 5 eggsVery good value

Pros: Very affordable considering the storage space. Choice of interface connection. Expandable. Easy to set up and use. Silent in operation.

Cons: Plastic casing is a little fiddly to open if you require to replace the drives. The power block of the power cable is built at the wall plug end of the cable, which takes quite a lot of space when connected to a surge protection power bar with other peripherals.

Other Thoughts: I was looking to buy two bare drives to replace those in my aging external hard drive in order to expand the storage space, but I found it would have cost at least the same or more than this brand new 2 TB external HD. Overall happy with my purchase. I haven't installed the software that came with it, I don't really need to, I just use it as it comes out of the box. It's nearly silent as it does't have a fan. The plastic casing is a little fiddly to open if you require to replace the drives. The power block of the power cable is built at the wall plug end of the cable, which takes quite a lot of space when connected to a surge protection power bar with other peripherals, I would have preferred a two-piece power cable but can't have everything for that price.

1 out of 5 eggsMY BOOK STUDIO PROBLEM

Pros: don't know any yet

Cons: IT FAILED AFTER 4 HOURS! I hope the next one is better . I normally have good situations with WD but I'm skeptical now.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Back up drive

Pros: It's an awesome back up drive. I love that it has two hard drives. I've been burned in the past with losing all my files. So this thing is amazing. I know my files are backed up twice.

Cons: Only con might be the price.

Other Thoughts: Get this drive if you want a good time machine.

4 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Reliable. Have never had any issue with losing data or something not working, aside from the firewire conking out randomly at one point. Fast, Tons of storage, love it

Cons: Firewire went out on me recently, working on figuring out why... otherwise it's great.

Other Thoughts: All-in-all I 100% highly recommend this drive. I have always been a fan of WD's quality in products. They do not let me down with this one. Yet another great WD product!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product that just works as advertised

Pros: - Good performance
- Easy to setup
- Reliable
- 5 year warranty!

Cons: None that I can find

Other Thoughts: I bought this to do backups with my Macs (Time Machine) and store files that I don't want lost. It is setup in a RAID-1, so I only have half the space but double the reliability. It normally hangs off my Time Capsule router as an Airport Disk and has been doing so since purchased in 2008. At times, I connect directly to it via FW or FW800.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat simple Raid 1 solution

Pros: It's a Western Digital product. It has been working great at my company running 24 hours a day for over a year. We have it setup in Raid 1 doing backups of former employee data.

The WD utility is easy and simple. It's perfect.

Cons: Comes in Raid 0 maybe? Why would you ever run this in Raid 0?

Other Thoughts: People saying it's slow to spinup must not be very patient. It takes max 3sec to spinup from total sleep. That isn't long IMO.

3 out of 5 eggsSomewhat disappointed

Pros: Large capacity, works well as mirrored array using WinXP

Cons: eSATA connection is troublesome and results in very long delays when the drive spins up after going to sleep.
Have to power the drive down then power it up in order for WinXP to recognize it after rebooting.

Other Thoughts: Like many other reviewers, I was also experiencing long delays after my drive went to sleep. This was becoming embarassing when working with other co-workers and clients therefore I switched to USB and found that I don't have the same delays. I didn't notice any difference in performance either.
Save your money and headaches and stay away from eSATA.

1 out of 5 eggsA pain in the...

Pros: Lots of space, 1TB RAID 1, and still a very reasonable per-gigabyte price tag.

Cons: Spins down, and takes forever to spin up again. The amount of time I spend waiting for this drive to regain consciousness makes me regret the purchase bitterly. I've had to spend time and effort writing software that reads random files on the drive so it won't spin down; yes, that would indeed be the definition of "an ugly hack." Why WD didn't find it in their grace to offer an option to disable this "green feature" in the driver software is still a mystery to me.
