1 out of 5 eggsWD Quality is not what it used to be

Pros: Purchased based on past experience with WD longevity. In this case, a mistake, on my part.
WD did replace the defective drive. I hope it will have an improved life.

Cons: I suspect WD has management that is putting good engineering choices behind profits. What type of profits can a company sustain if they lose their good name. WD quality is fallen and I suggest to you that management is the issue, as it always shall be. Drive died after less than 40 hours of service. Additionally, I had a 1Tb drive fail also. Out of 3 drives purchased I have had 2 failures. 66.7% failure rate to me is dismal.

Other Thoughts: If a company fails or the quality to the customer is diminished it is always the fault of management. This is a true statement and Dr. Edwards Deming concurs.
The system would not allow me to rate a scrambled egg choice.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat price for solid performance

Pros: Grabbing this drive at $60 was a great value for me. Needed this to fix an ailing laptop for a friend and I always feel good buying the black series of any WD drive. Added bonus at this price point at getting a 16 MB cache.

Cons: None to speak of. This type of part is great for keeping your laptop running.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: solid drive and good price
I am using it as a second drive on my laptop for data and running all my programs off a SSD Samsung 840 as my main drive.
Great setup if you have 2 drive bays to save $ not buying a huge SSD drive.

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, just noisy

Pros: Decent speed, and everything you'd expect from a WD drive.

Cons: Noise?

This is probably the noisiest 2.5" drive I've ever used... I bought this to replace the junk hitachi Toshiba loves so much and the main thing I noticed immediately was hearing the read head move around... the clicking... just... ever present. Eh...

Other Thoughts: Subtracted one star from noise... a minor thing really... but I've never had a WD drive chatter so much in a 2.5" format.

For laughs I ran several break in/reliability tests and it passed long, short, whatever I threw at it... drive works fine, so doubt the noise is a fault.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Storage for the price

Pros: economical, good warranty, works as advertised

Cons: not as reliable as expected

Other Thoughts: This is the third WD2500BEKT that I have had (two were in the laptop I'm doing this review on). The other two failed in less than 3 years. They were in high use laptops and one was replaced by WD under warranty. So all in all, they are a good drive for the money.
