5 out of 5 eggsGood one

Pros: It looks great, the blue light looks like the knight rider car. Its well designed, a lot of space. It shuts off automatically when you don't use it = longer life!

Cons: Cables for power cord and usb are very short. I had to go to the website and download the manager software to run it in vista 64bit.

Other Thoughts: I have the 2x1Tb edition but its identical to this one. Overall I'm very happy I got this one, raid 1 is excellent if you are paranoid you'll lose all your data because data is mirrored to both drives.

5 out of 5 eggsRedundancy

Pros: Raid 1 redundant, this is what I have been waiting for for awhile make my needed info so much safer that before. 3 yr warranty great!!

Cons: USB 2.0 spd is lacking a little but fast enough for most back-ups it's just the initial transfer that gets you!!

Other Thoughts: Should have bought the 2 terrabyte model for $70.00 more but this one will do for the time being

5 out of 5 eggsnice data store

Pros: Easy to use 500 gb RAID1 data store. It's quiet, sleeps when not in use, has a cool blue light and connects via USB. It's the perfect place to put music/pictures/backups for safe keeping. It's also portable if you want to transfer things to another system.

Cons: Nothing worth an egg. Plug the power supply into a horizontal UPS or powerstrip and it wont come loose. I leave my box on 24/7 so the extra boot time is not an issue. If you don't encrypt your files whoever steals it will have all your data.

Other Thoughts: I use this for archival purposes and it's perfect for that (no more DVD backups). If you want to access+use your data you might be happier with NAS... although I have a directory on it available to my home network for the gf to use. I just bought her one so I can stop this service ;)

5 out of 5 eggsWorks flawless on vista 64

Pros: Going to write first for those newbies who say it does not work work and support 64 bit windows.
The cd that comes with the drive are for 32bit os only, for those with 64bit forget about the CD, you have to register the product on WD website then download the new 64bit driver and backup program.
I did try using the CD but it will give me an error message, so I figure I had to go to check to see if they have for 64 bit and yes they did.
So far it works great and when I add files to my internal data driver it will automatically copy those files to my WD backup.

Cons: Trying to figure out where to get the 64bit software.
I just hope it won't break down

3 out of 5 eggsRAID1 is good, but a bit misleading

Pros: Always good to have a backup of data, and RAID1 mirroring makes it easy to replace drives that go dead.

Cons: A bit misleading - I thought it would be 1TB mirrored, but it's actually 500 GB mirrored. AC adapter is very large and awkward as others have mentioned, USB cable is only 4 ft. long (WAY too short). Bundled backup software doesn't really offer any options that I could find. I recommend separate dedicated backup software.

Other Thoughts: This drive is installed on a small office server running Windows Server 2003. I had a bit of trouble getting the OS to see that the drive was connected and getting WD's own RAID utility to see that the drive was connected. Not sure if that's just an issue with this being a server/server OS or not.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent storage capacity. I like the ability to RAID on this product.

Cons: For some reason, it takes it some time to boot up when you use it after long periods of time. 5-10 seconds before it lets you access the data.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if the boot-up time is normal or not, I am satisfied with everything else

5 out of 5 eggsKingT

Pros: The WD drives are probably the best out there. I've owned a 300gb drive for almost 4 years with no problems. I've bought 2 1tb drives that I've filled up that work problem free and im in the process of buying a 3rd to hold me over until the 2tb drve price drops. Im somewhat biased as I've only used WD drives but when something woks good why go away from it?? Let me say that I use these drives for storage so if your in the market for a reliable product I have to recommend WD to all. Thanx WD.......now drop the price of your larger drives and keep this loyal customer happy!!!

Cons: none at all

5 out of 5 eggsFinally i feel safe

Pros: I love the thought that my data being stored on both drives - it makes me feel safe. Drive is VERY quiet, very nice design, so far works really good and pretty fast. Wish we had raid 1 drives while ago - all my previous drives eventually died and i lost tons of pictures, files, videos imported from camcorder and just recently lost my entire 160GB iTunes library - recovery of dead drives take a lot of nerves and sometimes drive is simply dead and no recovery possible. if you looking for a safe place to store your files - this should be good investment. Love the idea of simply replacing one of the drives if it dies. i really love it.

Cons: none so far.

Other Thoughts: larger capacity would be nice but you gonna pay more of course. don't gamble with your data - drives die all the time so keep it raid 1 and save yourself from frustration of data loss!

3 out of 5 eggsPiece of mind is great!!

Pros: -Knowing you won't lose your data!!
-BIG HUGE drive

Cons: Quite a few cons here.
AC adapter is weird size, keeps coming out of the wall socket. Annoying!
Keeps making a clicking sound wether it's working or not, EXTREMELY annoying!!
Shiny case always has fingerprints on it (tolerable)

Other Thoughts: The AC adapter and the clicking sounds are HUGE turnoffs, but the piece of mind of reliable data backup trumps them both. Would I recommend this product. I recommend RAID, but not sure about this product. :(

5 out of 5 eggsThis drive is great!

Pros: Tons of freaking space. I still cannot fill it up!

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: For of you that say the power and the data cable is just fine. I use a 500 and 1T all the time and they work just fine.
