Other Thoughts: Here's a suggestion for anyone buying a hard drive, go with FedEx, the express saver is the cheapest. I know it cost more than UPS and Newegg's "free shipping" isn't FedEx, but here's the deal: I have bought over 30 hard drives (Western Digital and Seagate) through Newegg in the past 2 years, 100% of the ones shipped FedEx are still running, 80% of the ones shipped UPS were either DOA or failed within 6 months. UPS beats the He11 out of their shipments, even their website states that every package is subject to a 6 foot drop. Do the math, free shipping or cheaper UPS shipping isn't free in the long run. I ship my non-fragile items with the free shipping, but I do a separate order and use FedEx for hard drives and Motherboards.

Turn TLER on to safely use in RAID!!!

Pros: 1TB size, good price, fast.
Cons: I did some research on the reason these drives drop out of RAID and the RE drives don't. It comes down to the fact that RE drives have the TLER (Time-Limited Error Recovery) feature turned on, and these don't. Unless you annoy the heck outta WD, they will tell you that TLER cannot be turned on or off. This is a lie, plain and simple. There is a tool that WD made themselves that can do just that. If you use their tool the warranty is apparently preserved as well. To find it just google the file name "wdtler.zip" Its also pretty easy to find instructions for using it by googling too. Just be sure to plug in ONLY the drives that you want to have TLER turned on/off for, since it modifies all connected drives when you run it.
Other Thoughts: I'm going to be building my new gaming machine with a RAID 5 array and started out want these drives. Saw the "Don't use in RAID" post, got worried and was going to buy the 1TB RE3 drives, till I spent hours researching the exact differences. I changed my mind back to these drives, I'm saving money, and I'll just enable TLER myself. I suggest you do the same.

Pros: Hey what can I say, Western Digital has yet to disappoint me with a HDD. It's a massive storage drive with the normal speed of all those smaller drives. Was a good buy at the time. No problems at all.

Pros: I run a photography business, and I depend on drive dependability. I have had 2 drives fail out of the 4 of these I purchased and it has cost me a couple of thousand dollars for data recovery. I cheaped when I got these drives and I shouldn't have. Then I paid for it. I've heard a lot of people having great luck w/ them, but 50% failure rate is WAY too much for me. So long Western Digital.
Cons: Good price. 50% of these drives I have purchased have been great. so far. Too bad I've only used 4.
Other Thoughts: Very frustrating the life on these drives, i have not had them a year and 2 of them have failed.

Pros: NONE
Cons: Received a critical error while attempting to format within Vista. Downloaded a western digital troubleshooting tool (Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows) and running the "Quick Test" received multiple bad sector errors. If you want a new hard drive with bad sector issues upon first insertion, THIS IS THE DRIVE FOR YOU!! : )
Other Thoughts: I've asked for a replacement and will give WD one more try. I haven't been satisfied with Seagate drives and decided to try Western Digital - so far not happy...
