5 out of 5 eggslove WD

Pros: umm love the stealthy black look, the standby feature, and quick response

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: have been using it as a NAS now, just hooked up to my router, no problems at all, and access to shows whenever i want.

2 out of 5 eggsGood with a flaw

Pros: Lots of storage space. Good backup software program. Nice design.

Cons: Unfortunately the computer won't start with the drive turned on. While this is a "minor" problem, since you can just turn off the drive and allow the computer to start, it kind of defeats the purpose of automated backup. So you have to remember to turn the drive back on after the computer is fully booted up.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it's supposed to

Pros: This 640GB HB (which actually comes out at about 600GB of usuable space) is working flawlessly, so far. I have never had an external HD, so I have nothing to compare to, but this does what I had hoped.

The driver installed itself automatically upon plugging the USB cable into my CPU. It shows in my CPU as it should. I haven't had any trouble moving things to this HD, nor playing/viewing files from it.

WD has many good reviews across the internet, so I went with this one. No downsides yet.

Cons: One can find smaller units, but they're obviously more expensive. Also, this is USB, not fire-wire (which is a bit faster). So, these really aren't cons, but rather realities that need to be understood.

If you need a super-portable HD, this may not be the one...there are others on the market that are smaller/more compact. This HD was indended to sit on top of my CPU box as xtra storage space. For this, it's perfect.

Other Thoughts: Once again, newegg had this item at my door on Wednesday, after ordering on Monday morning. How do they do it? Great Job New Egg.

5 out of 5 eggsGets the job done

Pros: It's not super fast, but it gets the job done. It took a couple hours to copy all of my photos and videos.

Cons: No power switch to turn it off. If I think of it, I manually unplug it when I turn off the computer.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my sister, so these comments and ratings are my interpretation of what she told me.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Plug and Play, very easy to use even if you ave never used a ext-HDD before. Very quiet, very cool, and very reasonable xfer rate. Feel bullet proof and is quite slender.

Cons: haven't had any yet.

Other Thoughts: Can xfer My Documents folder and all contents in about 10-15 mins just to give you an idea of speed. Size of HDD is about the same as a VHS tape.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent, but wouldn't recommend unless really cheap.

Pros: Decent size for the price I bought it for. Solid casing. Comes formatted in FAT32 which was good for my PS3. Transfers large files fast. Once it's connected to your computer - it accesses blazing fast almost like it is an IDE internal.

Cons: Makes the usual clicking noises every once in a while, but I don't expect that with the rock solid case it comes with. Cord needed to go anywhere. Long 'start-up' when inserting the USB into anything. Usually about 30-40 seconds at least - not really good for on the go people, but good for people who have a more laid back attitude. Get it and you'll understand ... it's not a flash drive, so you can't treat it as such.

Other Thoughts: Pay the extra money and get a USB-chargable one. The power cord gets really annoying going between my PS3, my desktop, and my laptops.

5 out of 5 eggsGood stuff

Pros: It's just as advertised, spacious and easy to use. I've taken the HD with me when I've traveled, and it's been very easy to carry around.

Cons: None.
