Be careful!
- Pros: Was ok while it lasted...
- Cons: Died in 2 months..
- Other Thoughts: The only bad drive i've ever gotten from newegg, or western digital.
Good, but one minor issue
- Pros: Very quiet, fast enough
- Cons: Not the fastest
- Other Thoughts: First, I DID NOT buy this at Newegg, but rather bought the same retail kit at a retail store (yeah, I know - what was I thinking). The drive itself is A-OK and performs as good (or better) than expected. I installed it in my 17" white iMac - pretty major surgery - and its faster than the old 7200rpm Seagate I removed. I run Vista under Boot Camp and it actual gets a higher Windows Experience Index than the old drive.
But I do have one minor beef with the drive - as Newegg lists it (and everywhere else on the web), its supposed to have 16MB cache. However, my drive clearly states on the label 8MB cache. Not a deal-breaker, but had I known I would've picked a different drive. But since I already had it and had the iMac taken apart, I just decided to keep it. I don't noticed any real performance difference - its just "misinformation" and that bothers me.
Maybe Newegg's version has 16MB cache (though the part number - WD5000CSRTL - is exactly the same)...
- Pros: Quiet! My old system had a very noisy HD its nice to have silence with this one. Transfer rates are pretty good as well, not the best but respectable. Would recommend this to my friends and family :)
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: My system Build
