Pros: Tested regularly via various means over the years and it keeps on working error free. My next build will use a WD product(s).

Cons: Should have bought two when I built this rig. But that was a short between the keyboard an seat, not a product issue

5 out of 5 eggsLove it so far

Pros: Absolutely no problems installing a new copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on this. Installed this and left my old 160GB HD in as well for a slave backup. Windows disc booted and selected this drive for install and 20 mins later I'm downloading drivers and installing games!

I did not buy this through Newegg as it was an impulse buy to add onto my order of other parts from Newegg (I didn't want to wait for the shipping and wanted to install while I had PC opened up.) I was pleasantly suprised when I opened the box and the label on the drive says 32MB Cache! I was concerned as the box did not even state 16MB nor the rpm speed and I had read reports of this drive being 8MB cache and 5400rpm since it is the Green edition. Paid $54.99 for it retail and am way more than happy with the results so far. I am not a stats guy but performance in games is just fine.

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: I bought this drive from somewhere else before the prices started going down. This is the 2nd build I have had this drive in as my primary drive, I have formatted at least twice and it is still running strong, quiet and cool. I have not had a single problem with this drive.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Works just like its supposed to. I have always bought WD and will keep on buying WD for a long time to come.

5 out of 5 eggsWindows 7 Bargain All-Rounder

Pros: (applies to retail-boxed product) Is compatible with every flavor of Windows from 2000 up (as long as your motherboard supports the drive, so does Windows); fast (disk WEI of 5.9 in Windows 7 x64); very quiet (quieter than the drive it knocked down to secondary).

Cons: Slow (5400 rpm default) spindle speed default and EcoGreen spindown to that speed on boot can cause issues (if possible, use this drive as a straight storage drive, with a 7200 rpm hard drive, such as Caviar Black, for boot); no SATA data or power cables included.

Other Thoughts: Those seeking to use this drive with Windows (especially Windows 7) should download Acronis True Image WD Edition from http://support.wdc.com (this is a free software item); it handles drive-recognition issues (as a second drive) and migration issues (as a main drive upgrade/replacement).

2 out of 5 eggsItem came but surprised.

Pros: The drive came rather fast.

Cons: I was surprised to see this was drop shipped from D&H and put the drive in a giant bubble wrap bag. Which did not secure the drive from being banged around. The box is rather dented and banged up. Luckily doing a visual inspection of the drive seems to be okay, it is still in the original packaging. Won't know if the drive boots up until I finished my build.

Other Thoughts: I do hope that Newegg gives their drop shippers fair notice that if they are going to ship items for them, they can at least take the time and be decent by placing these fragile items in boxes. Is it really too much to ask to have thing you purchase properly packaged.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent drive so far

Pros: Very quiet, cool, and faster than I expected. I didn't expect this drive to be very fast but it benchmarked at an average 74.2 MB/s; max 95 MB/s; min 45.9 MB/s. It runs so quiet that I can't even hear it.

Cons: This drive is advertised to have a 16MB cache, but it says it has a 8MB cache on the drive.

Other Thoughts: Just keep in mind it has an 8MB cache. This is no deal-breaker for me. It is still rather fast. I wish I would have used these in my raid 0.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Wndows 7 Compatable

Pros: Tried to do the right thing and save some energy.

Cons: Did a clean install on my new computer with Windows 7 and when it got to the install screen it would not recognize it. BIOS would recognize it but Windows 7 would not.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this hard rive if you are using it with Windows &.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but one minor issue

Pros: Very quiet, fast enough

Cons: Not the fastest

Other Thoughts: First, I DID NOT buy this at Newegg, but rather bought the same retail kit at a retail store (yeah, I know - what was I thinking). The drive itself is A-OK and performs as good (or better) than expected. I installed it in my 17" white iMac - pretty major surgery - and its faster than the old 7200rpm Seagate I removed. I run Vista under Boot Camp and it actual gets a higher Windows Experience Index than the old drive.

But I do have one minor beef with the drive - as Newegg lists it (and everywhere else on the web), its supposed to have 16MB cache. However, my drive clearly states on the label 8MB cache. Not a deal-breaker, but had I known I would've picked a different drive. But since I already had it and had the iMac taken apart, I just decided to keep it. I don't noticed any real performance difference - its just "misinformation" and that bothers me.

Maybe Newegg's version has 16MB cache (though the part number - WD5000CSRTL - is exactly the same)...
