5 out of 5 eggsIt served its purpose.

Pros: It had absolutely no bloatware. It was a simple plug and play external hard drive, just like a USB drive. There is no "software" that it comes with. This is what I exactly needed.

Cons: I ordered this hard drive on the day before it went on sale. I was really upset that I didn't wait just a day more and I could have made this a even better deal.

Other Thoughts: WD should really stop putting their crapware into external hard drives. It really makes a lot of things much harder, especially the ones where you can't get rid of it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking like a charm

Pros: Small
No power cord
640 GB

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I'm using this as a secondary backup for several computers. Transfer speeds are ok, but it is a USB connection. Large files will take a bit of time. It comes with several autorun files on the drive. Their only purpose is to put a blue WD logo next to it's icon in Windows explorer. These can just be deleted with no problems. It won't effect how windows sees the drive.

5 out of 5 eggsFor the moron below

Pros: The moron below who gave it two eggs because it's formatted 50GB below 640GB. Let me teach you a little bit about computers so maybe you can justify your "tech knowledge" as high, which it obviously isn't.

It's the marketing that says the drive is 640GB, but if you read the fine print, it states that 1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Computers read 1GB = 2^(30) = 1,073,741,824 bytes. So 640,000,000,000/1,073,741,824 = 596GB.

Cons: This is something ALL harddrive manufacturer's do, including Hitachi which you quoted. You must be used to buying tiny drives because the difference in the two numbers is smaller as the drive size gets smaller.

Other Thoughts: I am buying this drive for a Christmas gift, I will come back and write an updated review later; however, having owned an older WD Elements drive, I'm sure this will deserve the 5-stars I've given this review.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for backups

Pros: I bought this to use on my sister's notebook so she could back it up. Simply plug the USB connector to the HD and to your PC and it appears as another drive. No auto-run junk, no drivers to install, no extra power cords.... As simple as it gets.

Cons: None yet.

5 out of 5 eggsBest portable HDD

Pros: Reliable and decently fast transfer rate without a power supply except a USB port.

Bought mine for sale last year and still does an amazing job storing large files.

Cons: No cons except I wish the 1TB portable was cheaper then I'd have to buy that.

Other Thoughts: Best portable HDD you can buy and competitively priced compared to others I would steer completely away from the Passport series of external HDDs from WD as I heard those are horrible. Th elements is your best choice as its extremely reliable and user friendly.

2 out of 5 eggsdisappointed

Pros: small size, large storage

Cons: Even though it touts 640GB , you only get about 590GB because of formatting. Other companies like Hitachi and others almost always give you at least the advertised amount after formatting but to lose almost 50GB in formatting is a kick in the pants!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Drive

Pros: Good throughput read and write.
Barely notice and heat.
Only the USB cable is needed when transporting, no power cords

Cons: Activity/Power light is in the back of the drive with the USB plug
Also this light is Bright white.

Other Thoughts: The other review(s) that say they cant stream movies i bet you plugged into USB1.1
I'm able to stream Movies from this drive plugged into my PC, over my network to 2 WDLive boxes at the same time.

5 out of 5 eggsGoing strong 6 months on...

Pros: Price: got it 80$ on sale. USB power is so convenient.
Size: Fits easily on my tiny desk. Was easy to find a hard case to throw it in my backpack. Speed: pretty decent throughput. Use: easily handles my Rescue & Recovery backup of ~45Gb in size, as well as all my music and pictures. I also formatted a partition to work with my PS3 to watch movies.

Cons: None really thus far. The led on it is pretty bright and flashes enough that it can be a nuisance in a dark room where you're trying to sleep.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had any problems with the USB cable.
