4 out of 5 eggsGaming

Pros: It was a good present and has done well with my insatiable appetite for gaming. I run my OS on one drive and all of my games on this one.

Cons: It does not have a 64MB cache, which would lead some people to believe it slow, however, I haven't had problems out of it EVER.

I've also never had to RMA a WD HD in my life so, this is pretty much a win-win.

Other Thoughts: my 7 year old WD 250GB HD is still rocking its socks off as well.

2 out of 5 eggsDied after 18 months

Pros: Reasonable Price/Performance

Cons: This drive stopped working correctly after about 18 months. It is no longer correctly identified in either Linux or Windows, and will often not spin up. Recovery attempts have been unsuccessful so far. This is my 3rd drive to fail in the past 12 months, not terribly impressed with the quality of hard drives these days. At least this one is still under warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear jeremys, we are sorry to hear that your device is no longer functioning correctly. Please note that there are many variables that can result in a failed drive, such as power outages, accidental physical damage, and internal component failure, just to name a few. We would like to assure you that we stand behind our warranty and will resolve this particular issue for you. Please contact us directly and reference this Newegg review.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with the WD Blue, as this is not the typical experience with the product.
Our drives are rigorously tested to ensure they are in good working condition before they leave our warehouses, and for this reason it is unfortunate that you have received a dead on arrival (DOA) drive. We do stand behind our warranty and replacement policy and would appreciate the opportunity to replace your drive for you.
As a troubleshooting step, we recommend running either our WINDLG diagnostics software or Macs built-in Disk Utility to check your drives health.

1 out of 5 eggsI am so not happy...

Pros: stores data

Cons: fails

Other Thoughts: I couldn't rate this with 0 eggs, so I gave it 1. The first one of these I bought failed in a bit over a year. The warrenty replacent failed the day I installed it. I installed it, copied some data, then started getting messages about backing up my data because the drive was failing. Now I am paying shipping costs for two warrenty replacements. Don't forget to factor that into the price....

3 out of 5 eggsOkay for the price

Pros: Got it for a decent price

Cons: Makes a lot of noise vs seagate drives
Worried that it is randomly going to fail and corrupt
Not really fast at all, bottlenecks my system

Each of our drives is rigorously tested before leaving our warehouses to ensure that they are in good working condition before leaving our warehouses. There are many variables that could amount to a drive emitting unusual sounds when powered on. To test our drives health, we have our Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows (WinDLG) utility, and Mac users can of course use Disk Utility and First Aid. For information on how to use the WinDLG utility, please view the information provided by the following link.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive so far

Pros: Very well priced drive for when I purchased it. Works great as a repository for my games. Loads any game I play quickly.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I've used WDs for years in my computers and PCs built for friends. Never had problems with them. I was slightly put off by some bad reviews of this drive, but it was easily the best priced 1TB drive when I bought it, and it has performed reliably since.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works, nothing else special

Pros: Mine worked when I got it, have not had problems with it.

Cons: Only that I cannot test its download speed well because my internet and flash drives are much slower than my this hard drive.

Other Thoughts: Not DOA.
