Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with the WD Blue, as this is not the typical experience with the product.
Our drives are rigorously tested to ensure they are in good working condition before they leave our warehouses, and for this reason it is unfortunate that you have received a dead on arrival (DOA) drive. We do stand behind our warranty and replacement policy and would appreciate the opportunity to replace your drive for you.
As a troubleshooting step, we recommend running either our WINDLG diagnostics software or Macs built-in Disk Utility to check your drives health.

1 out of 5 eggsI am so not happy...

Pros: stores data

Cons: fails

Other Thoughts: I couldn't rate this with 0 eggs, so I gave it 1. The first one of these I bought failed in a bit over a year. The warrenty replacent failed the day I installed it. I installed it, copied some data, then started getting messages about backing up my data because the drive was failing. Now I am paying shipping costs for two warrenty replacements. Don't forget to factor that into the price....

3 out of 5 eggsOkay for the price

Pros: Got it for a decent price

Cons: Makes a lot of noise vs seagate drives
Worried that it is randomly going to fail and corrupt
Not really fast at all, bottlenecks my system

Each of our drives is rigorously tested before leaving our warehouses to ensure that they are in good working condition before leaving our warehouses. There are many variables that could amount to a drive emitting unusual sounds when powered on. To test our drives health, we have our Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows (WinDLG) utility, and Mac users can of course use Disk Utility and First Aid. For information on how to use the WinDLG utility, please view the information provided by the following link.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive so far

Pros: Very well priced drive for when I purchased it. Works great as a repository for my games. Loads any game I play quickly.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I've used WDs for years in my computers and PCs built for friends. Never had problems with them. I was slightly put off by some bad reviews of this drive, but it was easily the best priced 1TB drive when I bought it, and it has performed reliably since.

1 out of 5 eggsFail

Pros: The usual stuff. It was a hdd, it stored data.

Cons: It failed and corrupted my files. Unrecoverable OS.

Other Thoughts: Second WD hdd to fail. First was laptop. Never again.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works, nothing else special

Pros: Mine worked when I got it, have not had problems with it.

Cons: Only that I cannot test its download speed well because my internet and flash drives are much slower than my this hard drive.

Other Thoughts: Not DOA.

3 out of 5 eggsVERY LOUD

Pros: It works

Cons: It's very very loud.
This hard drive makes your pc audiable, I wanted the pc silent but this drive makes a LOT of noise compared to most drives.

Not sure why it's so loud, and it's always been like this.

It's not a failing kind of loud, it's just the sound of a loud hard drive. (This old computer)

1 out of 5 eggsWhat The Hell...

Pros: Not Sure - certainly not price or quality.

Cons: Well 2 year warranties on blues is pretty pathetic for W/D's & 32Megs of RAM is downright poor for the price. Might as well use Seagates. I have used literally 00's of W/D's over the 15/20 years I have been building systems with drives lasting as little as 6 weeks and a couple lasting 7/10 years. I have NEVER had a DOA before. I know quality/availability is down - as well as prices drastically up - since the great flood(s) but I would strongly suggest paying the premium for the blacks whick have keep their 5 year warranties! Greens & Blues - keep 'em.

Other Thoughts: Heaven help me, am thinking of using Hitachi (IBM) and Samsungs again. W/D needs to GET IT TOGETHER.
