1 out of 5 eggsNever buying WD again.

Pros: Worked for a couple months

Cons: Crashes and doesnt work anymore.

Other Thoughts: I used to be the biggest WD fanboy. I bought a 160 gig hdd 7 or 8 years ago and it never gave me any issues until the bearings went out (which is acceptable after 7-8 years of heavy use). This drive started crashing and giving me the blue screen two months after using it. I haven had nothing but trouble with this drive and after looking at other reviews Im not the only one turning their back on WD. They just dont make quality drives like they used to.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Blake, it is unfortunate that you are experiencing problems with your Hard Drive. We understand your situation and will gladly replace your in-warranty drive. You may do so online at the following link, or by contacting us directly

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: These "Black" WD drives are the best 7200 rpm drives I've owned. I have several caviar black 500 GB drives that have been up and running continuously error-free in a webserver for over a year + several in my main gaming/work PC which also runs 24/7. This 1T I just got fired right up with no bad sectors and nothing unusual. I expect this drive will also serve well.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for a mechanical drive

Pros: In the age of SSD's, this HDD fares pretty well. I'm using it for storage & games in my new build (and my SSD for Windows 8).

Load times have actually surprised me, as it is much faster than my old 7200rpm drive. It does its job.

Cons: It's not an SSD? ;)

5 out of 5 eggsTrouble free for 2 years +

Pros: I have had my 1TB Western Digital drive for over two years now. It was a wise decision to get it.

Cons: There have been no cons with this drive. Just make sure you plug in both the power and SATA cables. ;-)

Other Thoughts: I like Western Digital. I am still using a 120GB WD drive I bought twelve years as the boot drive in another computer. Isn't it great to get hard drives that are made to last? You can grow old together.

1 out of 5 eggs-- Bad Idea -- Mail order Hard Drives

Pros: Retail Boxed WD Caviar Black drive.
Decent warranty.
Drive says it has a 64MB cache even though the order was for a 32MB cache version.

Cons: DOA. This drive was "bricked" when I received it. Not recognized by any of the 4 computers at my home. Does not show up in the BIOS nor in Disk Manager.

Rightly or wrongly, I have concluded that it was dead and I do not know why.

Other Thoughts: This drive arrived in the retail box but was just sliding around in another Newegg box with no packing whatsoever.

I have had DOA problems with a few of the bare drives I've purchased in the past, so this time I bought the retail, Black version and had it shipped to me via (the more costly) FEDEX.

Despite all this, the drive still arrived dead and the box wasn't even smashed. From this point forward I resolve to never buy another spinner by mailorder again. I know that UPS treats these boxes like footballs, and suspect that every other carrier does the same. It's just not worth it for a delta of $20.

Picked up a drive cash and carry at BB. It worked...

4 out of 5 eggsGreat drive for a Slave Not MTR HD

Pros: I didn't get it from Negg, I was going to justy I would have paid more then 20bucks more w/shipping. & Then have to wait 4-8 days,. Seeing that UPS they can't handle anything Shipped. In Fact if you bought something that was made of glass. It could be rapped in a HUGE AIR bubble. But after shipping with UPS , You will get a box that looks like the U-tube vids of the toos over the fence 20X or the Lets' Jump on it & then Make sure it's making noise(raddling) & Then you get a box that has been re-tapped & Looks like it was sitting on the bottom of the shipping palet. If I could paid the extra for Fed EX I would do it everytime. I give UPS a -5EGGS. As for the HD great right out of the box. I've had it over 1year & still working .

Cons: As for the Win 7 64Bit WEI I get a 5.9 while everything else is 7.5+ So, I wouldn't use this as your master drive. I should of made it a slave drive, just at the time I didn't have the funds :o(

Other Thoughts: After a yr I notice the Defrag seems to missing about a 3rd of the drive. I've tried re-boot Defrag & saying no problem & even the WD site ran a test saying it's ok. Just when I run a Defrag. It's telling me 3rd of the drive can't be de-frag'd. So, Not sure what's going on, So, I've been backing up on 8.5DVD-DL's Just N case it does die on me.
