5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Reliable manufacturer (IMO, been using only WD for many many years now with absolutely zero issues).

Large capacity and performance for a very reasonable price.

Cons: None yet, 3 weeks since I installed it and still going strong.

Other Thoughts: This was purchased to replace a dying laptop drive for a Dell Inspiron 5720 laptop.

2 out of 5 eggsEarly Failure

Pros: See previous review.

Cons: This review is from: Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD10JPVT 1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive
Pros: It is a high capacity drive... for those of you who actually use a full TB of storage.

Cons: This drive failed in under 2 years with nominal non-raid use. WD claims to give a 2 year warranty for this product, but it looks like it would be rather challenging and time consuming to get them to honor it. In other words, probably not worth it. WD used to be a quality name, but I am beginning to wonder these days.

I have not seen a hard drive fail since the early 90s until now. Hmmm.

Manufacturer Response:

"Regardless of the reason for your drives defect, we stand by our product,..."
As if to imply that I in some way did something out of the ordinary to cause hard drive failure. Again, nominal use. See the previous review.

Your offer to replace the drive came 8 days after I posted my review. I had long since replaced the drive in my daughter's laptop that she needed for school. The new drive cost me less money shipped than it would be worth to me to deal with your customer service.

Stand behind your product with inline quality or before it's shipped. Other reviewers have also reported early failure.

Thank you for your response.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great, no issues for one year now.

Cons: None, but requires tinkering to disable idle head parking (WDIDLE tool). This is supposed to lower the chance of drive failure.

5 out of 5 eggsOriginal 60GB PS3

Pros: Installed over a year ago. Fit in the PS3 perfectly. Very large storage. This is great for the large amount of PS+ games I download. I have not had any problems with the hard drive.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: Would highly recommend. Great price. Highest amount of storage you can put in the PS3. Remember that some of the storage is taken up immediately, so you will end up with a drive that has about 850 GB available after install.

3 out of 5 eggsjust stopped working out of the blue

Pros: 1 TB size, easy install. worked fast and was satisfied when it worked.

Cons: used the original HDD in my macbook pro for at least a few years for much longer than this WD HDD lasted me.

Other Thoughts: i was skeptical purchasing this based on the not so great reviews i saw, but the pc store i got it from did not have many others. under a load when converting a cd the hdd stopped working. my old one was put in and boots fine.

1 out of 5 eggsMore Garbage

Pros: So I wrote the previous review for this product and received a response from WD:

"We stand behind our warranty for the duration of the products provided warranty period, and as such, we are here to support our products regardless of the circumstances. We would like to resolve this particular issue for you. Please contact us directly, and reference this Newegg review, along with your previous Case number with WD support."

So, from "We would like to resolve this particular issue for you" I assumed they wanted to help...

- Created WD portal account
- Registered product
- Created support ticket
- Referenced Newegg in the ticket per instructions
- Called the # provided by WD
- Referenced the support ticket
- Told that they cannot help me

Cons: GARBAGE PRODUCT, GARBAGE SUPPORT. Do you hear me Western Digital?

WD just spit in my face by sending me an email saying they would help, having me create an account, calling support, then basically saying "Sorry, go eat cake".

Honestly, as a loyal Newegg customer for years you should not allow vendors to contact customers directly just so they can spit on customers.

Other Thoughts: I stand by what I say 100%. Western Digital has become GARBAGE. TOTAL GARBAGE from products to support.

Buy a Samsung or Hitachi drive. I use them in many devices and I have NEVER once had a bad drive.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear DonkeyX,
We apologize for the continued inconvenience and misunderstanding. We have forwarded your information to our support team for follow-up, and are confident this particular issue has been resolved for you with a positive resolution.
Thank you for allowing use the opportunity to assist you.
