2 out of 5 eggs150 GB WD VelociRaptor

Pros: Very quiet, relatively fast, reasonable price

Cons: On the Windows rating my new build was rated at 5.9 because of the WD VelociRaptor. My primary HD was lowest scoring component. All other components were in the mid to high 7's. Rating said data transfer rate was low.

Other Thoughts: I am eventually going to swap out my current WD VelociRaptor for a Solid State HD, Just waiting for prices to come down a little more. This drive does it's job and I am satisfied. However, I know there are better drives out there, would recommend going with a Solid State Drive if you want a high performance primary drive. Do your homework first.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This drive is fast. I use it to run my OS and programs from. Everything else is on separate HDDs. Works great, Have had it for a while and zero issues from it.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsRaptor

Pros: Heat sink integrated to a high RPM enterprise drive.
Windows now boots in 4 progess bars. The 32 meg cache make access times faster and smoother.
I will go to an SSD WHEN they get ALL the bugs and issues worked out. But for now I am very pleased. I have never used a another manufacturer, WDs seem to run for ever.

Cons: None so far

1 out of 5 eggsAnother Failure

Pros: Worked great. Nice speed. Quiet.

Cons: Lasted a month and then died.

Other Thoughts: about half the hard drives I've gotten the last few years have either been DoA or died after a short time of use.

5 out of 5 eggs5+ year owner

Pros: I bought it here on a different account. in 2007 I think for the price I'd actually buy a second again. =] fast little buggers. I paid more for mine a long time ago but its the same one.

Cons: still quiet, despite what anyone says, and that's after having my tower knocked over.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA, 1st Newegg RMA

Pros: The heatsink looks awesome.

Cons: DOA.

Other Thoughts: My first Newegg RMA experience was pleasing, but I'm still rating it 1 (would rate 0 if allowed) because I'm rating the product, not Newegg service.

Big waste of my time getting into my HDD cages only to find out the product doesn't work.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well so far...

Pros: Performs well, runs cool and quiet. Some say these run hot, but that has not been an issue for us, although we ensure good system cooling as a precaution for all components. I cannot attest to the longevity of this particular drive, but I can say that we have earlier models of the WD raptors, (36 and 74 G) that have been in operation for nearly a decade, (yes, over 9 years). I hope these work as well.

Cons: May not be as speedy as claimed. Depends somewhat on usage model. Price vs size is an expensive trade off, and SSD may soon make these, and well as many others a museum piece.

Other Thoughts: I want to give these just 4 eggs, but how can you knock an egg when something works pretty much as expected, despite the cons mentioned.
Also, thanks NewEgg, your level of service keeps us coming back.

5 out of 5 eggsJust flatout amazed!!!

Pros: This hardrive is just as fast as my friends SSD. It boots windows just as fast, and I load things insanely fast in WoW, BF3, etc. Installs new software just amazingly fast and in my opinion beats an SSD!

Cons: Just recently died after being used for almost 6 years. I left my computer on almost everyday. It's life shocked the hell out of me!

Just paid $5.50 in shipping and having it RMA'd for a refurbished, but saves me a good $100+ on a new one.

Other Thoughts: I would buy 5 more if I could afford it..

Pros: Fast, smooth

Cons: No cons really.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for.... these raptors are nice, simple.
