4 out of 5 eggsOne died

Pros: Good seek time, fast disk. Maxtor brand. I've nevery had a Maxtor drive fail, until now, and I've owned about 10 of their disks so far.

Cons: I bought two of these SATA disks for a raid setup. I set them up as raid 0 figuring within the year I'd purchase two more to make them raid 1+0, but six months in one failed. I lost 1 months worth of data as that was my last period of backup. I've never had a Maxtor drive fail, I have one still running after 15 years. Newegg RMA'd because Maxtor has a great warranty. I cooled this well too, two fans blowing right behind my two drives. Not sure what happened. It was playing back a movie when it died.

Other Thoughts: I've seen from the reviews that folks have mixed luck, seems to be the case with hard drives. Make sure to cool them properly, but even still it's a gamble. Make sure to have a backup strategy. If runnig RAId, rai 1 at least, till you can mirror more disks.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 250 gig, 16mb cache, sata, came to me vaccum sealed.

Cons: Fdisk sees this drive as a 131 gig.. Makes noise while reading/writing. Did not come with cables.

Other Thoughts: Maybe their is something I overlooked while installing. Windows 2000 does not have a hardDrive capacity cap to my knowledge.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Great Drive. Fast, steady. I have two of these in IDE 133 form as well. I have pledged myself to the Maxtor Maxline III's and I have 3 of them in my computer now as well. ^^

Think performance at a new level. Windows booting in less then 8 seconds. Think Maxtor! lol

Cons: there isn't much of one if any. These guys can tick though. You can hear them load and write. But that can be considered a price for performance like this.

Other Thoughts: I will always recemend Maxtor Hard Drives, as well as WD. ^^ This is just something you gotta try for yourself. Also remember to switch it to 1.5gbs if you dont have a 3.0gbs capable motherboard.

2 out of 5 eggsNo SATAII w/nVidia chipsets

Pros: 4 in raid0 for 6 months without any failures, fairly quiet

Cons: nVidia chipsets do not recognize them as SATAII, it is supposedly an nVidia problem; however, I have been unable to find any controllers which list them as a compatible drive. There are no updates from Maxtor or nVidia which solves the problem. All speed tests have come out approximately same, over 220MB/s write and below 30MB/s read, makes no sense.

Other Thoughts: ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe, 64X2 4400+, Dual BFG 7900 GTOC, Corsair TwinX 2048-3500LL, Coolermaster RC830, XP PRO, Plextor PX740A, Soundblaster X-FI Platinum and these HDD's are the only problem in the system.

1 out of 5 eggsslow, slow, slow

Pros: Price. Bare drive.

Cons: These OEM drives from Dell take over 10 hours to low-level format and are noticably slower than the same model Retail drives.

Other Thoughts: Bought 4 OEM drives and Newegg apparently sold me bare retail drives (firmware VA111630) which had 486344 cyls and were fast and low-level formatted in an hour. Bought 4 more OEM drives 4 weeks later and got Dell's "rejects" (firmware VA131610) which had 484406 cyls (1GB smaller) and were slower and took over 10 hours to low-level format!! Maxtor says that they don't sell OEM drives to outlets like Newegg and that Newegg buys them from computer builders like Dell who specially ordered them built this way!

4 out of 5 eggsissue on startup

Pros: I bought this around 2-3 months ago and it's still running just great. Easy install, fast, and quiet.

Cons: One issue i did experience is on my computer startup sometimes it does not recognize the drive and widows fails to start up. But all i do is turn my computer off then quickly off then back on and it works just fine.

Other Thoughts: It's a perfect drive other than the startup issue

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Awesome

Pros: They are running great now 3 months. Fast and no issues. I spaced them in my case and placed a fan behind them, because some folks said they run hot, but so far they've been cool for me.

Cons: none!

Other Thoughts: just buy it! Maxtor rocks! I've never had a Maxtor harddrive fail on me and I've been buying them for over 10 years.
