Pros: I've been buying hitachi drives for the last 6 years and never had any problems, so was surprised to see some negative reviews here. Good price, and my original Deskstars are still working. "deathstars" is an ill-deserved nickname in my opinion, but catchy..
Cons: not the best performing drive on the market.

Pros: Price (and nothing else)
Cons: Worked fine for 4 months, started random errors and finally died yesterday after only 6 months of use. Even at a cheap price its not worth it.

Hitachi Deathstar

Pros: Worked for nearly 2 years
Cons: I still have functioning 800 mb harddrives from over 15 years ago. I wish I had known the hitachi deskstar was nicknamed the deathstar. Luckily I had almsot everything backed up, it went down slowly, a small problem here, not recognizing it there. Finally, nearly 2 years after I bought it, my computer will detect the drive, but I cannot format it or access it in anyway.
Im going back to WD, or maxtor.
