4 out of 5 eggsGood 4 backup

Pros: This drive worked well for me. However, I only use it for back up via a USB /HDD adaptor.

Cons: *none yet...*

Other Thoughts: I did not pick this drive for performance. I got it because it was cheap, and I didn't need performance.

1 out of 5 eggsObviously a refurb!!!

Pros: Would have been a good price if it were new!

Cons: Went to Seagate's warranty check and the drive was listed as a component drive and was not under warranty. So much for a three year warranty!!! Power on time...1902 days!!!

Other Thoughts: Could have just ordered the 'refurb' listing for $12 less and possibly had a 90 day warranty!

5 out of 5 eggsClassi Mechanical Drive

Pros: Classic hard drive. Perfect for an inexpensive boot drive or where large capacity drives are not needed. It's quiet and cool. Perfect for a budget PC.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Boot drives do not need to be large and even though SSDs are being used for that, there are situations where there is a lot of disk I/O and mechanical drives are the work horses for these jobs. This drive should outlast an SSD due to the # of writes SSDs are limited to. SSDs are becoming better at that and cheaper, but at the present this drive is a better solution, imo. I have always had excellent experience with Seagate and have read some reviews that are concerning, but that is not my experience.

Also since machanical drives do not work as fast as SATA 3, this drive works perfect in the SATA 2 port.

I am using this as a pfSense drive that caches web pages, so there is a lot of disk i/o and this drives works extremely well. so far!! but that is the nature of drives.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointed

Pros: NONE!! -- I received a thoroughly used, relabeled drive with 24,065 POH (Power On Hours) of use on it.

I would have given zero eggs if I could have.

Cons: The box label & the drive label have part number ST3160815AS on them. BUT, the MoBo BIOS's (2 different boards) and Seatools for DOS v2.23 reports the drive as ST3160815SV - NOT - ST3160815AS!! -- I have a desktop system NOT a video surveillance system!! -- I need a desktop drive!!

I guess Seagate (or the 3rd party they have rebuilding they're drives) decided to relabel a used PofS drive & return it to Newegg instead of actually fixing it & shipping out a Seagate Certified Repaired HDD as they did in the good ole days.

Apparently Seagate's not the only ones doing it either, I checked out some WD drives, numerous reviewers had the same issue with they're drives as I did with this SchlockGate.

Other Thoughts: I have a Seagate Certified Repaired 80gig SATA-2 HDD with over 18,000 POH (it started @ ZERO NOT 24,065!!) and it's still working perfect. Week ago I picked up a pair of Seagate Certified Repaired 80gig PATA HDD's for a Linux box; they too started with ZERO POH - NOT 24,000!!

I asked the Newegg CSR for a customer courtesy credit to cover the extra $15 cost of a 250GB (Seagate) drive even though I don't need that big a drive, she said no, refund only.

Great - now I have a new system I built for Win-7 (to replace XP box) and NO HDD to put the OS on. Guess I'll have to check Tiger - I DO NOT NEED, NOR WILL I BE FORCED INTO BUYING A 1.21-GIGABYTE DRIVE!!

5 out of 5 eggsStill works.

Pros: Still working after 4 years. I purchased this drive on 10/12/2007 from Newegg. It's my boot drive, I have a 500 gig Seagate for storage and Steam games.

It's obviously not the fastest drive and certainly not as fast as an SSD, but it was inexpensive and has lasted long enough.

Cons: Can't think of any, unless you consider it's not as fast as an SSD.

Other Thoughts: I can only hope that my next drive will be as reliable as this has been.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Fine With Xp Home

Pros: Large Amount Of Space For Cheap! Also, Seagate Is A Good Brand, Great Competitor With Western Digital! Has SATA II Capability, Much Quicker!

Cons: I DO Know There's Larger Hard Drives Out There...

Other Thoughts: Cheap, Easy TO Install, Large Enough, Trusted Brand, 8Mb Cache, What More Do You Need?

5 out of 5 eggsStandard drive

Pros: It's relatively cheap for it's size.

Not loud, like i heard some of the 7200.11 drives were.

It worked out of the box and there are no bad sectors.

Cons: .None, for the average person (or PC).

Other Thoughts: Some buyer's may have mentioned a bad connector?

I had no problem at all with the drive or the contacts.

4 out of 5 eggsBarracuda Drive

Pros: Good value. Generally reliable. 3 year warranty.

Cons: Chinsy connectors. Very easy to break them off if you brush against the drive cable.

Other Thoughts: If you get a drive that's bad out of the box, Seagate won't replace it with a new drive; you'll get a refurb.
