1 out of 5 eggsAwful, awful product.

Pros: Worked great... For the first twenty days.

Cons: Drive completely died within 20 days of installation. Nothing physically wrong upon close inspection, but my data is forever lost after taking to many data retrieval centers.

Seagate wanted to charge 700 dollars for data retrieval, despite the fact the product was under warranty, and the error was obviously not operator error.

Other Thoughts: I'd go with Western Digital way before Seagate.

1 out of 5 eggsThese things burn up

Pros: When I bought a pair when they were one of the biggest drives available. In RAID-0 they were a beast compared to anything I'd ever owned before, and I'd say performance in that setup would still stand up to the newest high performance single drives.

Cons: These are extremely loud and a pair generated more heat than regular case airflow could get rid of. This is even more painful because the performance gain and price per GB makes RAID so attractive.

Six months after my RAID build one was replaced by Seagate under warranty. Even after installing a second dedicated 80mm intake for hard drive airflow, the other failed at one year.

Seagate would still replace it if I asked, but I'm not interested in getting another drive I can't trust.

Other Thoughts: Not buying Seagate again for quite some time.

If you decide to get one of these, make sure to keep it frosty and far away from anything else in your case that generates heat.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's always an adventure when booting up. Lots of new sounds.

Cons: Click, click, click.... Do yourself a favor and stay away from this dog. You can just tell when a hard drive is ready to go and this one is ready to go any minu

5 out of 5 eggsOver a year on raid 5, still going strong

Pros: Good price, decent performance given the price, cheap enough to replace 5 times over compared to a high end proprietary drive.

Cons: None that I have witnessed

Other Thoughts: I ordered 6 of these 7/1/2008 and they have been in a single raid 5 array on a 3ware 9650Se-12ML raid controller, mounted in an icydock internal enclosure. None have failed, none reporting errors.

1 out of 5 eggs3 of 4 died

Pros: Seriously?

Cons: After a little more than a year of service one of my drives died a few days ago.
Ran chkdisk and fired the server back up.
This morning I began a full backup and the system crashed with my RAID controller yelling at me. Reboot.... 2 of 4 dead!!!
While frantically trying to figure this out... 3 of 4 dead!!!
Flashed firmware on all four. Still dead, but with shiney new firmware.

Other Thoughts: Kiss it Seagate.

1 out of 5 eggsSave your Money buy another brand!

Pros: I have 2 of these drives a 750 and a 500 and within the first 6 months the 750 died and the 500 started to click on me. Boxed and shipped both in for replacement (great warranty on paper), waited a few weeks and got replacements, yet the 750 they sent died 2 months later, and the 500 is starting to click loud again :(

Not even worth the $$ & hassle to box and ship them back again - wait for weeks to get them replaced with more refurb drives that are most likely going to just fail again like the last set they sent.

First and last try on seagates for me, back to WD...

Cons: Both drives died within 6 months, $$ to ship back for replacement, both refurbs died AGAIN within shor time despite a large cool antec 900 case with plenty of cooling and airflow.

Other Thoughts: Might just be a bad model line in the seagate family but for me I wouldn't trust another one in my computer.

1 out of 5 eggsless than a year and it's dead...

Pros: It's still in one piece...for now.

Cons: Well, lets see. A month into owning it started the click of death. Three months and I started getting errors and my machine wasn't recognizing it. Got a cooler and a bigger case and it ran fine. Now, nothing...I/O errors, format errors, and several hundred gigs of data gone. Seagate, I have to admit, you make a great target for an AR-15....
All I hope is that the 250GB Seagate I've got doesn't decide to die on me too. I'm going back to WD, I don't know why I switched in the first place, I'll never make that mistake again.

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your time on this drive. Just when I thought all would be well it decided to do this...at the worst time. I'm in school and that 750 was my back-up for everything...now i have to pray nothing else goes out while I wait for student loans to get a replacement...

1 out of 5 eggsCLICK CLICK CLICK = Junk!

Pros: Worked for a year and four months of intermittent usage as a backup drive. 5 year warranty -- so this piece of junk will be replaced free... with another piece of junk that will die young.

Cons: Now sits on my desk, clicking and refusing to give me my data! Seagate, is this what you call server grade? Apparently that means different things to different people.

Other Thoughts: Junk. Thankfully, this was one of two backup hard drives. The other one is a Western Digital RE3 1TB. I think I might buy another one of those...

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK JUNK JUNK

Pros: Cheep, large storage capacity.

Cons: JUNK. These drives are pieces of junk. I've had two of them fail on me with MONTHS of purchasing them. Thank goodness I had a RAID array that has saved me both times this has happened. I will NEVER buy seagate if I can at all avoid it! Horrible!

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Drives

Pros: Very solid drive! If you require tech support Seagate provides excellent service.

Cons: 1st Failure of a 15 drive array occurred at 7 months out.

Other Thoughts: 15 of these drives have been under heavy load since March. First failure occurred in late October. Seagate provided advanced or standard replacement options, I opted for standard and my replacement drive arrived quickly and in good condition.
