The Seagate FreeAgent Go portable drive offers 250GB of storage in a package smaller than a hardback novel. You can hardly feel any weight when you put it in your suitcase or backpack, so it's easy to take on the road! Instead of annoying bright LED indicators, the drive features an array of white led lights that blinks a beautiful slow fading effect to show activity.
This 250GB drive offers the speed and reliability of USB 2.0, and works as a Plug n Play device with contemporary operating systems. The 5400RPM spindle speed ensures that the drive can keep up with the data flow across the bus. The included easy-to-use software helps keep your information safe and private with automatic backup and encryption of your important files and folders.
It's all about having your photos, music, videos, and more with you – when and where you need them!
Other Thoughts: The USB interface will make it run a bit slower than drives that have an eSata interface. Average transfer rate is right around 30mb/s, which is right where the speed should be bottlenecked by USB.
Very solid drive.

Solid Product

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: This external harddrive works well. I purchased for people I know who carried around too many seperate small capacity USB flash drives. This drive is very slim, light weight, and could easily fit in a pocket. The drive also comes with a cable that only takes up 1 USB port. It also performs reasonably fast.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: I have not used the pre-installed software that comes with the drive extensively. It looks like it could work, but the people I bought this for are probably intimidated by software applications. Fortunately, unlike another Seagate external harddrive, it does not force you use the software. If the user just wants to drag and drop, they can. If the user prefers automated backups, they may choose to use the software instead.

Pros: Slim, portable, only need 1 USB cord for both power and data transfer. Really light weigh. Good for traveling.
Cons: I never like the software come with the hard drive. It took me five minutes to delete all of that.
Other Thoughts: Newegg is awesome on shipping and rush order is really rushing. Stuff showed up in the office within 3 days. Keep it good work.
I am weird. I always buy Western Digital internal hard drives but I always buy Seagate external hard drives.
This seagate drive is good for traveling but if you need to back up the PC's I suggest you should get something bigger size and has more connection. USB transfer rate will take forever if you back up a whole PC =]

Decent USB drive
Reviewed By: Dick on 1/24/2010
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Small, simple, no need for DC power, has lasted for almost a year.
Cons: Slow, but steady. Only 5400RPM. Short cord.
Other Thoughts: I have had this unit for about 10-12 months. I have used it to restore multiple systems because I am always updating firmware on my SSDs. I have depended on this drive and it's never failed me. I used it today and it was WAY slower than normal. I think it's because it's full, but I ordered a new enclosure anyway....just to be safe. I would recommend this drive, but you can probably find faster for the price....you will not find much better build quality.

Great drive
Reviewed By: Dick on 1/23/2010
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Good quality Solid feel Recognized quickly in Vista, and Windows 7 Decent speeds Activity light Very simple design
Cons: Short USB cable (about 12-14 inches) Only 250GB
Other Thoughts: I got this somewhere else for the same price about a year ago. I have used it constantly to back up 3 systems. I have used it to restore my desktop countess times because I update the firmware on my SSD...every time I update, I have to restore the OS. It has always worked and I am VERY glad I got it. I am currently looking for a larger capacity drive, but i'm finding that it's so nice to just plug one of these in and not have to deal with power cords, fans, etc. It would be nice to have eSATA, but until "powered" eSATA becomes more popular, I might just stick to USB. USB3 will be the way to go in a few months. eSATA would be nice, but it's a pain to worry about power and recognition.
This was my first Seagate product and only Seagate product ever. I normally like WD drives, but this has been a great drive. I have used it more than most people would and it just keeps going strong. I highly recommend it.
