1 out of 5 eggsDied after 3 years, just storing files

Pros: used to work.

Cons: Died!, used this drive to backup files, [hd] probably seen 10 hours of work time, then sat in my drawer seeing nothing but other cables and misc adapters [in the dark].

Other Thoughts: no wonder its out of stock

2 out of 5 eggsdied after 2 years, 1 month

Pros: good looking and quiet

Cons: stopped working at 2 years

Other Thoughts: From some comments, I guess 2 years is a long time for a hard drive. I don't think so. It shouldn't stop working. It sounds like it is running so I wonder if it is just the interface.

2 out of 5 eggsTHINK THIS OVER AGAIN BEFORE BUYING!

Pros: Lasted me only for up to a year (i think). Sleek, portable but bulky. Promising. It helped me quite a bit. Price was somewhere about 80s (expensive back then).

Cons: If I have not mistaken, I purchased this last year that i rarely even used because I have a hard time to sit all day and organize everything. However, I always noticed that it would always make annoying noise which I got used to after a while. Today, I simply just knocked if off to the side which dropped not even more that a foot away and it landed onto a potted plant. I thought the plant have saved it. I was wrong! What a failure of the whole technology that has cost me my money (bought it from costco) and hoped that I would be using this for a long time. No way of returning it since I dont have packaging or receipt anymore. Totally dissapointing. TOO FRAGILE!

Other Thoughts: keep it flat on the lowest surface/shelf that you could possibly place. Once you purchase it, you have to take care of it very well. Safeguard it and you will still get your stuffs accomplished.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I've owned this drive for over a year, didn't buy it off new eggs but I've also never had any real big problems with it, works with windows 7. Had it running for about 72 hours straight, didn't heat up to much.

Cons: after about a year the security on it kicked in, prob. something I did, but basically it only allows my computer to access the actual folders unless ownership of the files are transferred, which is a hassle but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.. so i guess that isn't a con, probably a way to change that. The tiny rubber legs they give you for laying it flat fall off easily but that's about it

Other Thoughts: great little external, but mine is now full :)

1 out of 5 eggsProblems with TimeMachine on Mac

Pros: Good price, nice looking case.

Cons: Difficult to format for use on Mac OS X. Seagate power settings interfere with TimeMachine settings.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive to replace a smaller Western Digital drive. My setup is to have this drive physically connected to an iMac, and then backup both the iMac and a Macbook (via WiFi) using time machine. The power settings of the Seagate drive continually caused problems, even after installing the fix found at < http://support.seagate.com/downloads/mac/Seagate%20Sleep%20Override%20Utility%20for%20Mac%20OS.dmg >. I have since returned this and purchased a larger WD drive that has worked without problems.

2 out of 5 eggs500 was a champ, 1TB version not so good..

Pros: Holds lots of data, and still has it a year later, no corruption yet, looks pretty.

Cons: Loses USB connection. Constantly getting a "MSFT.fil delayed write failed" error, and losing the drive mapping. Need to unplug

Other Thoughts: I have the Freeagent 500 for 2+ years, and that thing worked like a champ. Never had a SINGLE problem with it, and would work in any PC I plugged it into. The same design was obviously not carried forward to the Freeagent 1TB.

1 out of 5 eggsshould have known from the start

Pros: Pretty silver case
Average price

Cons: Straight out of the box it made a ticking sound like the disc wasn't sitting properly. It would take forever to start up and then randomly stop. We only used it for our home movie storage so it wasn't moved around once we set it up. Stopped working altogether within a month.

Other Thoughts: I will stay away from all Seagate products in the future.
