Pros: Good price and warranty. Seagate drives are excellent.
Cons: A bit on the slow side, but to be expected for consumer class hardware.
Other Thoughts: Drives die and folks who gripe about that are foolish. Seagate has always been more than willing to swap drives out if there are any issues. Over the years, I have swapped out dozens of drives with each of the major manufacturers and Seagate tends to be the best. Make good backups and you will never have to worry about it.

Pros: Five year warranty from seagate, nice design, lays flat or stands up. Not bad for file transfer rates via usb.
Cons: LED is rather bright, runs a little warm under a load, but what hard drive doesn't?
Other Thoughts: Not a bad price either, Overall a great hard drive, no problems thus far.

Pros: Had this drive for over 4 months and it works great. I don't understand how others have so many problems but maybe Seagate had a bad batch or something. For me, this drive works great! No problems, it's fast, and I opted not to use the Free Agent Software, instead I just use Window's Explorer to backup files and such. I use Auslogics disk defrag too, maybe that is why I don't have any problems.
Cons: None, this drive has been sitting on my shelf, and my cat likes to warm his behind on it. :-) Still, the drive works FANTASTICALLY!
Other Thoughts: I think some people think that a 1TB drive can be tossed around and abused. This is simply not the case. This drive was not meant to be portable. If you want to carry around a drive get a smaller laptop drive. They are more expensive and hold less, but they are meant for moving them around. This drive was meant to be stationary.

died after two months light use

Pros: looks ok on the outside
Cons: died spontaneously after two months of very light use. from other reviews, this seems to be a badly made product. was never transported anywhere outside of our home, never dropped on the floor or anything. very frustrating to have to pay shipping for the return of a product that was clearly badly made to begin with. i know all hard drives die eventually but two months of light use is ridiculous. i don't even want the replacement under warranty b/c with these kind of reviews how can i trust it?

1TB not reliable at all

Pros: Looks great, 5 year warranty
Cons: Really noisy and getting hot after 4 hours of connecting to the laptop. The data transfer takes too long for even moving small files. I get Windows Delayed Writes error several times and used to lose data this way if I just cut and paste instead of copying. Seagate manager software would not even notify me when it has so many bad sectors. I found it out when connecting to ubuntu. When tested with seatools, all tests failed. Before i can back up data into another hard drive, it dies.
Other Thoughts: I chose this hard drive because of its capacity, warranty and the image of Seagate. I assumed that Seagate's confidence to provide 5 year warranty indicates good product but this is not the case. After searching online, i found out a lot of 1TB customers are having the same issues which later claimed by Seagate to be issue with faulty firmwares. My suggestion for you is to do research before buying any external hard drive because your data are vital and Seagate would not recover the data if your drive fail. They will only replace with a new drive which apparently is not likely to be a reliable drive.
