5 out of 5 eggs$0.12 a GB

Pros: Silent, cool running, and holds all the info I need. Right now I have windows 7 beta 64bit running on it. I have had no problems with installing, formatting, or with it dying.

Cons: none

2 out of 5 eggsDied quickly

Pros: I liked the thin height and single platter. If it worked this would give enhanced cooling. Seemed speedy (during its brief functioning life).

Cons: Only lasted long enough to formatt and try Ubuntu 8.10 (formatted swap, \, and \home) changed my mind after 2-days and started to reformatt for Vista home premium 64. Vista recovered partitions into single unformatted partition, but when I tried to formatt in NTFS the errors began. Could never get drive to finish formatting and began hearing a constant faint clicking noising coming from drive (drive is faulty. RMA'ing back for replacement) Hope I get a good drive next time.

Other Thoughts: I don't know, but I am beginning to believe that the push for low prices (i.e. made in China) has reached the point of unexceptablely high defective products getting through.

5 out of 5 eggsSo good, so far

Pros: Nice hard drives, very silent, and run very well. I integrated 2 of these into my new rig in a RAID 0 setup for performance. Had no problems getting them to run, and now have a single RAID 0 drive running stable at 931 Gb total capacity

Cons: None.. Yet...

Other Thoughts: Hopefully these drives are not affected by the firmware problems the 1 TB+ seagates have been stricken by. This is my first encounter with Seagates after a decade worth of being a Western Digital customer. During that time, I had my share of issues with WD hard drives as well. I doubt that no company will ever make a perfect drive, but I am plesantly impressed with my choice of confidence in Seagate on this new build.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good

Pros: Quiet. Large capacity with a small footprint - perfect for my HTPC project.

Cons: None at the moment.

Other Thoughts: Didn't want but one drive in small Antec cube case because of potential heat issues.

5 out of 5 eggsInternal drives for new computer

Pros: price, reputation

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I used WD drives for years (back when 2 GB was a large drive) but in the last 5 years I've exclusively used Seagate, and so far, I've been very happy with the results. The only drive I'd experienced a failure with within the last 5 years happens to be a WD 750 GB eSATA drive I use with a DVR. Two other Seagate 750 GB eSATA drives are older than the WD, but still doing fine. So for me, the reputation is such that I'll stick with Seagate.

This purchase was a pair of 500 GB SATA drives for a new computer.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and quiet

Pros: I love these HDD's. I have 4 in a RAID 0 array. When I unrar a 800mb xvid I dont even see the program come up. I tested the speed with HDtune and got over 650 mbps. Dont buy a single 1TB drive. Buy these and set up a RAID array. you wont be sorry. Id buy these over the WD Black any day.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: My build...cpu = Intel i7 920, MB = EVGA X58, RAM = X2 G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB)DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) 12 GB total, HDD = X4 (4 drive RAID 0) Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA, Vidio Card = X2 (SLI) XFX GX285NZDFF GeForce GTX 285 1GB, PSU = Rosewill RX950-S-B 950W 80Plus Certified, Case = APEVIA X-SUPRA G-Type Steel ATX Mid Tower, CPU Fan = ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler(also had to get the adapter)

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap, stable, good performance.

Cons: Nada.

Other Thoughts: It's no raptor, but these things are still pretty quick and great for data storage and the like.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect!

Pros: This drive is fast, cool and quiet. Installed perfectly without and problems. Newegg had the best pricing also with free shipping. I am glad it didn't enter my head to get a new one until now since the 7200.11's seemed to have some issues. Seagate has made a change for the better with the 7200.12's.

Cons: Nothing so far. However, I still cannot figure out what the difference is between the ST3500410AS and the ST3500418AS. I just went with the one that had the most reviews.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive to replace a smaller one. I just cloned the old one over using Seagate's DiscWizard. This drive is completely silent compared to the Seagate 7200.10 that I had and runs 8 degrees cooler. These drives do not come with mounting screws or a SATA cable but I had all that and was prepared. This drive is smaller than the 7200.10.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb HDD

Pros: This hard drive is great. It is very slim compared to my Western Digital 40GB's. It keeps all my storage, and Windows Vista Home Premium installed great the first time. Stays cooler than my other hard drives too. SATA is a lot faster than older IDE connection. Looks great in my case. It Seagate, so its reliable.

Cons: Only shows up as 465GB, but whatever. That's great for most everybody.

Other Thoughts: This is an awesome hard drive. Hardware Monitor says it is staying at around 26deg Celsius. This hard drive is great, and worth every penny. Go Seagate. Will be buying from you again. Thank you Newegg!
