5 out of 5 eggsReliable

Pros: No glitches, hiccups, stalls, lockouts or anything else after 3 years. Never had any compatibility issues between various Windows, Linux and Mac OS distros. Handles VMs just fine.

Cons: Slows down after about half an hour of high load.

Other Thoughts: I originally purchased this for casual data transfer and storage. After a year I needed a place for 3 small linux VMs. This has done the job and never given me a single problem. Also has about 100gb of my wife's stuff on here. After all of that I think I have about 10gb left but it hasn't noticeably slowed down.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: It works.

Cons: Kinda small.....memory wise.....

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my sister and family for a back up drive a few years ago. I plugged it in and set it up for them to back up their system on a scheduled basis. They haven't called me so I know its still working!

1 out of 5 eggsbad usb connection

Pros: good price...

Cons: ...the usb port crapped out on me with very minimal usage and never being dropped.. and i have no idea how to save the data which i have on it. Tech support gave me permission to open case, which I did, but I still couldn't figure out how to connect to PC. I did more research on this and it seems to be an ongoing problem for these external drives.

Other Thoughts: I don't recommend it due the connection being so flimsy.

1 out of 5 eggsTypical Seagate Dependability

Pros: Works good for about a year. I got it for free with another product...

Cons: I have had it for about a year and two months. Went to plug it in to back up my catalogs in light room and update my backed up portfolio only to find the data format is corrupted thus making it inaccessible. I could reformat but then I lose all data saved on there. I could take it to my friend that can do some data recovery on it. But wait I still have the same information on my WD hard drives that have been running almost constantly for over 3 years. So I could reformat and back up that stuff all over again but who is to say it won't happen again when I actually need it. So all of that would be worthless... just like this product.

Other Thoughts: People say you get what you pay for... I didn't pay anything for it. Enough said.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 3 months

Pros: Few problems. Had one file that was corrupt and had to reformat to remove it, had few issues, worked 99% of the time I plugged it in.

Cons: This one failed sooner than my last portable HD, which was a different brand. Really disappointed this is already dead. I always keep backups of my backups, so I am mostly covered, but I did lose a few files that were important because of this.

Other Thoughts: I use my portable HDs a fair amount for file backups. This means moving files back and forth, unplugging and replugging between computers dozens of times a week.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome until stolen

Pros: Operated successfully for about a month. Got two solid backups in... then house got broken into and stolen... must have been awesome enough to steal? right?

Cons: None that i could account for

Other Thoughts: looks like you can't buy this unit anymore. its a shame. very highly rated and cheaper than whats out there.

2 out of 5 eggsLike it and then dislike it

Pros: Holds a lot, so-so transfer speed and it is small with a sleek design. Just your typical external HDD for daily use.

Cons: Barely use this HDD for more than 50 hours and suddenly I heard clicking sound. Transfer and reading speed drop tremendously including opening a simple text file. Next day later, HDD won't even be recognize by the computer. The HDD is still running as I still hear the disk inside rotating and the BIOs shows it there. Trying to fix it atm.

Other Thoughts: Is a pretty common problem for most external HDDs and you can try to search for a solution on the net. I found plenty of videos on how to fix this particular problem but do it at your own risk. More than likely it always involve breaking the warranty.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small, easy for transporting files, and doesn't need to double USB cable like some external hard drives have in the past Price was right.

Cons: It's not a Western Digital. Always a little leery about Seagate, but so far so good.

Other Thoughts: Good reviews and it was cheap, so I took a chance. If it dies, nothing on it is not safe elsewhere.
