1 out of 5 eggsGOOD FOR A YEAR or SO then FAILURE

Pros: Decent value for the money. Good warranty system.

Cons: I ordered 4 of these to create to Mirrored Servers RAID 0 for a video editing machine. I've had to replace two of them over the past 3 years, which was ok, at least one was under warranty and I had redundancy with the RAID 0, however recently a 3rd one went out, complete failure and the RAID did not hold up causing us to lose our entire stock footage library and some client footage.

Other Thoughts: I've been a big fan of seagate over the years when building our editing machines, including external storage as well, but this is the last straw. We have to have something more reliable.

2 out of 5 eggsDied after 3 years

Pros: worked ok while it lasted

Cons: Died at just 3 years. Guess I should have known by the 2 year warranty. Was part of a raid1 mirror, so no data lost. Still sad they die so fast.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent so far

Pros: I have this unit for over 2 years; My PC is on and online most of the time (24/7) and doing stuff; some viruses in the process (Windows nest technology; no virus in my Linux environment of course) run 2 OS. So far have to repair from viruses and malware like 5 times. Hacked 3 times and like 15 attends from who know who in Germany and China. Never re-installed the OS and still working fast, no noise, reliable to me. I use heavy programs for gaming, Images, remote access to customers systems, disaster recovery and more. No problems so far

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Excellent for my job and normal use; will recommend to everyone

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost four years...

Pros: Purchased 9/09, just died last month. It was my boot drive and was pretty fast for a mechanical HDD. It gave me full warning before it died, through Windows. Make a full image of the drive with the Windows backup and restored the image to a new SG-2TB drive, lost almost nothing.

Cons: Withheld one egg for longevity, shouldn't HDDs last for years like other components...

I know, I know...you don't have to explain it to me!

Other Thoughts: Was an awesome drive while it lasted...now its onto SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent hard drive

Pros: This was the last great HD I bought from Seagate. Near the end of 2011 I bought this plue two Seagate 1.5 TB green 3.5 drives. The greens bit the dust and have been replace by SG w/ refurbs, one of which deleveoped bad sectors days after I got it (SG told me it was 'normal').

But this 1 TB has never given me trouble and is now in my I7 2600K machine. It's quiet and now is at a temp of 34C.

Cons: After having 3 Seagates fail within 6 months (not counting the one with bad sectors), I'm laying off them until I'm sure they are on sure footing again. For the most part Seagate provided good support for the drives.

Other Thoughts: I have many external Seagate hard drives still working starting about 2003 ranging in size from 120GB to 2 TB. Never thought about warranty since they gave no trouble - manu of them took hard falls from the desktop and kept working. Only one of them failed - a 1TB desktop - checked with Sea gate and it was only a couple months shy of its 5 year warranty; SG sent a nice 1.5 TB replacement. So these 1 to 3 warranties are not a good deal in any sense of the word.
