5 out of 5 eggsStill working after all these years

Pros: This hard drive is still working. Bought in june 2010, it has accumulated around 2.8 years powered on, according to SMART DATA. it's still going!

Cons: Slow as it was, but expected for a hard drive.

Other Thoughts: This hard drive was hit or miss. seems like mine was a hit.

4 out of 5 eggsIn memory of...

Pros: This drive was bought 4/4/2010, and last night it finally came to it's unfortunate end. It served a life as a usb backup storage drive, and it did it's job with all it's might. Running much more often than I intended to run it simply due to forgetting to shut it off. But it didn't complain or cause problems and did it's job.

Cons: Then came the fateful day, a creature of pure evil and malevolence came along, it's name, Pockets, a particularly cruel creature with an affection for warm places and causing chaos. Deciding to take the place of a simple hard working drive, so it could take a nap, it shoved the poor thing off a desk sized cliff, where it met it's end. While it wasn't the fastest drive, it was working over usb, so it was faster than the usb connection, however if it were up to par for internal work, poor SEEGATE *his name* would probably still be with us today.

Other Thoughts: If you want a steady dependable drive for backup or simple office use, this drive should suit your needs. Just don't let it go base jumping and try to keep it safe from creatures of darkness.

SEEGATE, how I will miss you.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst hard drive known to man!

Pros: Worked for a while.

Cons: Died after 14 months. Seagate support was awful and refused to replace the product until the Better Business Bureau got involved. After the product was replaced, Seagate's lawyer sent me a letter threatening to sue me for reaching out to consumer protection agencies, among other things that were completely made up. Hey...I gave Seagate a month to solve the problem on their own, and they wouldn't do anything.

Other Thoughts: I work in an IT firm with multiple high-profile corporate clients and have 18 years of experience with computers. For Seagate to try and make it sound as if a hardware failure is not a design flaw (they really did tell me that) and then laugh in my face when the product fails is an insult to me both professionally and personally. There's also the fact that every hard drive failure I've come across lately has been a Seagate drive. They'll try to tell you their drives don't fail, but I know what I have seen. Facts are a very inconvenient thing when your product is a substandard one. Not many Newegg products can boast a 28% 1-star rating, but this one can.

I have now had 9 Seagate drives fail on me. That includes the most recent failure of the hard drive in my DirecTV DVR. If Seagate was the last hard disk manufacturer on earth, I'd go back to using 3.5" floppies. I will never, ever spend my hard-earned money on another Seagate product. End of story.

1 out of 5 eggsDeath clicks after 8 months

Pros: Good price, high capacity.

Cons: I had read the reviews about it failing and figured it wouldn't happen to me. But then it did.

2 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Cheap, Good brand, 1.5TB

Cons: DOA. Now I have to wait even longer to get storage computer up and going.

Other Thoughts: Wish I would have installed the HD before the 30 days. Seagate should exchange this HD with no issues.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat I expected. Big and good value.

Pros: Great price/GB.
Large capacity.
Good price point when I bought it. (I paid $80 in July '10)
Includes screws and cables.
Lower power consumption.

Cons: It wasn't free.
Moving parts so eventually it will probably fail. As will most any hard drive.
5900rpm, but I use it to store recorded TV on my HTPC so I don't need anything faster.

Other Thoughts: Installed in an HTPC for video file storage. No OS is installed on this drive, but for an HTPC, installing an OS on it wouldn't be a big deal.

Haven't had a Seagate die on me yet, but haven't had a ton of experience with them.

4 out of 5 eggsGood HD, but not for an enclosure

Pros: Cheap, Good Customer support, good warranty, and big.

Cons: I purchased this to replace my Barracuda 1tb drive, and it failed in about 2 months time. Seagate replaced it. The short of it is, that the drive is not meant for an enclosure which is where I used it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Cool Drive

Pros: This drive is all Pro, as far as I'm concerned. It does the job of being a great backup drive. I'm amazed how cool it is to the touch in a aluminum usb/estata external enclosure; unlike other 7500 drives in the same type of case that are fairly hot to the touch.

Cons: It's 5900 RPM speed could be a con but it's worth it if it makes it so cool. I don't know how well it wold fair if it was your main hard drive but my esata enclosure would never reach the maximum speed anyway.

Other Thoughts: I hope this drive is reliable over the years. Always great to buy from Newegg. They always backup they products. You can't go wrong.

5 out of 5 eggslarge and in charge

Pros: size, price, retail packaging gets all the little extras like cables and software.

Cons: i hear a clicking noise, and it concerns me although no errors reported and smart has not been triggered. i will remain cautious.

Other Thoughts: fast enough for my HTPC setup and storing movie backups.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Price, speed.

Cons: Died in less then 3 month. Making noise trying to start motor.

Other Thoughts: 6 cents per GB - not bad. When you loose 1.36TB of data - not good at all.
