4 out of 5 eggsMine Works Like A Champ...

Pros: This has been a good hard drive for me, very reliable so far.

- SATA II
- Low power consumption
- Plenty of storage as an OS drive
- Relatively quite performance

Cons: Not too many cons I can think of on this, which I'm pleased about to say the least.

- Only 5900 RPM
- Only average read/write speeds
- Other reviews about this product worry me

Other Thoughts: I did not get this drive from Newegg. I traded a friend of mine an old PC case for it that he wanted. After formatting, I tested the drive with SeaTools and Crystal Disk Info and it passed both with no errors.

My drives power on count was about 60 so it hadn't been used too much. The health status was also good on it. So I made this my OS drive, and paired with another Seagate 1 TB drive for storage.

This drive has been a very solid performer and it's pretty quite as well. Love the low power consumption/low temps of it. Read/write speeds leave something to be desired, but it's got an average speed so I can't complain too much there.

Seagate has NEVER let me down. Oh they will die at some point, but in my experience I have always gotten many years of use out of them before they do fail. Their my number one go-to brand for hard drives and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Great hard drive, at least from my perspective and experience. I would totally recommend it as either a spacious OS drive or an average sized storage drive. Not sure why so many bad reviews from Newegg about it, maybe they just got an entire bad batch of them.

Had mine for about 6 months (used, as well) and it works like a champ.

5 out of 5 eggsNo other choice

Pros: It works and does what I need it to do. This drive has more capacity than the one it replaced and the price was not bad either ($87 at the time ) + free shipping.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I had no other choice but to get this HDD to replace the one in my Dishnetwork DVR. I could not find a replacement at a good price and at the same capacity as the original. The ones I did find were used. Dish limits what HDD you can use and this was the best replacement I could find. Pleasantly surprised that it had 500Gb (vs 320), consequently, I can record more shows. The old one (Maxtor) died because it overheated. I put a USB laptop cooler under the unit to prevent future failure/overheating. I have not read good reviews in regards to reliability. However, since it was relatively inexpensive, I added the 1 year extended replacement plan for $10.

1 out of 5 eggsGood Paper Weight

Pros: They have good magnets in them that are fun to play with after the drive dies. you can tear them out and use them as fridge magnets.

Cons: I have had multiple failures with these drives and have had one get RMA'd 3 times now with the 3rd one being returned dead right out of the box.

Other Thoughts: unacceptable failure rate and their RMA policy seems to be taking your dead drive and just shipping out to someone else. One of them was dead the day i got it.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not last 3 months

Pros: None.

Cons: Bought this for my Tivo HD and started have spontaneous reboots 3 months later.

Other Thoughts: Replaced it with a WD 500 GB AV-GP drive and have no problems yet. Can't return it to Seagate because it passed the Seatools diagnostic tests.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: work good for a little while

Cons: the hard drive is throughing errors and starting to fail. I get the blue screen of death once or twice a week. the unfortunate thing is that I need to replace it before it completely fails so I am unable to colect on the warrenty.

2 out of 5 eggsGoing bad.

Pros: Good price for 500GB drive and it is smaller than the 250GB drive i have from Maxtor. I'm getting some good transfer rates and the drive works well with my games.

Cons: This drive has been making some awful noises on startup, it seems as the starter motor on an old truck is not catching on the fly wheel. If it were a truck that'd be bad, on an HDD it just means i'm going to waste time and money.

Other Thoughts: It would of been nice to have at least 16MB of cache and an extra sata cable, good thing i always have spares. Seagate reliability is where it always has been, too bad i expected more from this drive. Hey folks you might want to consider a different manufacturer (i know i will)!

2 out of 5 eggsDito, not what I expected either!

Pros: Newegg's shipping is very fast!

Cons: Like the last reviewer, this drive isn't what I expected to be buying. Since this is my first SATA drive, I do not own any cables. So for now it is just a paperweight, until can buy, something else just to be able to plug this thing in! VERY POOR item description here.

4 out of 5 eggsNot quite what I expected

Pros: It got here in one piece, hasn't exploded, and I haven't found any bad sectors... yet.

Cons: Beware- It's a bare drive. I got it thinking that it had a SATA data cable with it but it did not(-1 egg). I wouldn't have gotten an HD from Seagate if I knew this as a relative of mine had several of her Seagate PATA HDs die on her years back.

Other Thoughts: I thought I ordered a 320gb drive, but I was pleased to find it was actually a 500gb drive. I'm going to give this HD an honest shot. Everything is smooth so far so I don't see a reason to go through the hassle getting another one.
