5 out of 5 eggsDecent drive

Pros: I brought this drive to give to a classmate and they don't do much on a drive other then play a game and web based stuff so 80Gbs was fine. It's still running good from what I've heard and it's in one of those mini PCs that always kill the hard drive because of overheating. It's holding it's own and I'm impressed considering it's refurb.

Cons: Size, but really for people that mostly Facebook that's not a problem.

1 out of 5 eggsComplete Trash

Pros: None at all.

Cons: I bought this drive for a future project, figuring it would work just fine (after all, it had been refurbished, right?).

When the time came, I unboxed it, hooked it up and discovered that the drive was completely bad. It would fail to operate correctly within a few minutes of power up and eventually stall the system. From what I could tell, the failure seemed to be with the drive electronics.

I was past the Newegg return policy and Seagate's (very) limited warranty on the drive, but I put in a call to Seagate anyway. The people I spoke with were very polite but adamant that nothing could be done even though the drive was just past their warranty by a day or two.

I finally threw the drive away after taking my frustrations out on it.

Other Thoughts: I was very surprised that this drive didn't work straight out of the box. Seagate had changed the label to indicate it was refurbished, so I would have hoped they tested it afterward to be sure it worked. (Admittedly, this failure could have been caused by something in the handling process as it found its way to me. Given that the failure seemed to be electrical and not mechanical, though, I doubt it.)

I bought another refurbished drive from another maker at the same time I bought this one. That drive still works perfectly. I think I'll steer clear of Seagate's refurbished drives in future.

Pros: - none

Cons: - harddrive is failing after 4 months of use

Other Thoughts: I wish I Had run hard drive diagnostics test when I first got this hard drive as I'm sure it had errors to begin with.

5 out of 5 eggsIt just works

Pros: For a re-certified hardrive, it works great so far. It does make noises occasionally like a brand new hardrive. I would have paid extra and gotten a brand new hardrive but it was for HTPC. So, I didn't care if it was new or old.

Cons: Whoever reformatted or clean the hardrive didn't do good job of it. When I accidentally, booted the system without loading my Live Linux Boot CD, I start to see windows flash screen as if it was loading Windows XP, but the system crashed afterward.

Pros: Very good HDD, works great!

Cons: 4/5 because it cannot fit in my primary HDD container and it's only 80GB.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money.

Pros: It works.
It's pretty ok as far as speed in my opinion.
Got it for $29.99!!!!

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: At the person that complained about the shipping. I think newegg read your complaint because when I received mine along with my MB and CPU, It was in its own box inside the big box. It had plastic ends that the HDD slid into firmly and wrapped securely in bubble wrap then placed into the box which it fit nice and snug into. The actual box everything came in had almost been completely opened on the bottom. Just a little bit of tape left holding it on. Not newegg's fault i dont think, but most likely UPS.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works fine, no trouble, not the speediest thing out there but not horribly slow either. This drive performs to expectations.

Cons: Not all that much capacity

Other Thoughts: Got it for holding operating systems; don't need or really want the speed an SSD offers, but still need to keep windows away from my files (we have a bad history).

No irregularities in drive operation

4 out of 5 eggsInexpensive drive that does the job.

Pros: Cheap basic disk drive that works. No thanks to the packaging (See 'Cons')

Cons: NewEgg still has packing issues, IMO. The packing/packaging was terrible. These were wrapped in one layer of 'big bubble' wrap, then put inside the standard white OEM disk box. Plenty of room for the bubble wrapped drive to move around in. (This is a bad thing.)

Those two boxes were put inside a box that could have held about 16 of those white boxes, and a small handfull of brown paper was crinkled and thrown in. Again, plenty of room for the contents to move around in. (Still a bad idea)

The box arrived with one end caved in. This isn't surprising given all the empty air in the main box. When I opened the individual white boxes, the bubble wrap along one edge of the drive was completely popped, providing zero protection.

That's why 4 eggs instead of 5.

Other Thoughts: Both disks passes SeaTools tests, so they should be allright despite the shoddypackaging.

Note that these come with the limiter jumper in place to choke them to 1.5 instead of 3.0.
