1 out of 5 eggsdidn't last

Pros: worked fine while it worked

Cons: 6 months after I built a brand new PC, BSOD's started; 3 weeks of diagnosing later, the PC stopped recognizing the hard drive; works fine now with an old spare hard drive

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: This is a very solid drive that is quiet and speedy to boot. Great for budget builds.

Cons: Bad dollar to space ratio

Other Thoughts: You can get more storage for the money these days, but this continues to be a very good drive.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap and it Works

Pros: cheap, and it works

Cons: could still be cheaper?

Other Thoughts: I used this to replace a failing drive in a ReadyNAS 1000S that has a four disk X-RAID array which is nearly full, so this thing just got baptized with almost a full 250 GB of writes from re-synchronization in its first 90 minutes of use. Faster drives exist, but anything quicker would be wasted in a six year old NAS that is easily CPU bound by a single large CIFS transfer...

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Drives

Pros: They make a nice paperweight.

Cons: We have 200 of these drives that came in Dell Optiplex 790s and have experienced a 20% failure rate so far. In addition, they are afflicted with horrible slowness, taking three hours to lay down an image where any other drive would take less than an hour using the same hardware and image.

1 out of 5 eggsReallocated Sectors

Pros: Quiet
Fast

Cons: Within a month of purchase, I noticed a few reallocated sectors, but it remained stable for awhile. Then at 38 days from purchase (8 days past Newegg return limit), I rechecked, and it has 32,368 reallocated sectors...

Newegg wouldn't work with me on a return, even though problems started before return limit. (I know it was past, was just hoping newegg would work with me)

Not I have to pay Seagate for shipping, for a drive that lasted a month, to get a refurbished drive from them. I have bought Western Digitals for years. Seems I should have kept the streak going.

Other Thoughts: this is a prevalent problem with Seagate it seems. In researching the problem, I found page upon page of threads about it.

5 out of 5 eggsNot Understanding the Negative Reviews

Pros: Bought this drive over a year ago on Shell-Shocker for EXTREMELY cheap. I've ad absolutely no problems with it and I've reinstalled a couple OSs on it.

Cons: Read write speeds could be better.

Other Thoughts: Again, the r/w speeds could be better, but I'm not expecting magical performance for a drive I only paid 70 for.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: ????

Cons: Bought 2 drives. Both DOA. One shorted the motherboard and the other showed a Bad 3.8 gig partition. Partitioning software could not do anything with the drive.

Other Thoughts: Replaced w/ 120 gig OCZ solid state drives since customer's storage needs are low.
