4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: It's lasted 2 years and it's still going. Great for mainstream PC users, but not for enthusiasts.

Cons: Not the quickest but definitely up to par. USB 3.0/3.1 will render this unit obsolete due to data transfer speeds. SSD is the future, invest in a decent SSD and buy more in the future as you need them.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Works perfectly. Quick enough access for me.

Cons: 90 day warranty. If it weren't for the 90 day warranty, I would have rated it 5 stars. I think a 6 month warranty would be way more fair. My unit is fine with no problems, but a 90 day warranty is a joke.

Other Thoughts: I've had no issues with this hard drive. It's been discontinued at this point, so why am I leaving a review?

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Good price.

Cons: Got this for dvr (security cams, not tv). Dvr unit didn't recognize hdd, so unable to format or use. Since the dvr unit was new wasn't sure if it wasn't the dvr or hdd. Purchased a WD av-gp 500 gb hdd (new not refurb) and dropped it in dvr, was recognized immediately and was able to format in less than a few minutes. So, Yea the Seagate refurb was doa. Newegg instructed me to contact Seagate about replacement, Seagate stated they wouldn't deal with it and suggested instead to contact Newegg and deal with warranty that way. Newegg emailed postage-paid return label, shipped it back to Newegg, they inspected hdd and agreed it was defective and decided to refund my account. Relatively painless return process.

Other Thoughts: Bummer the refurb hdd from Seagate was dead on arrival, ended up spending 65 on a new one of same size and geared specifically for av systems by Western Digital. I've gotten other electronics that were refurbished that worked for years just fine, but in the case of hdd's? In the future will probably just go with new hdd's with at least a 1 yr warranty and not take the chance of having this issue again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in desktop

Pros: Works in pc, not just dvr. Also supports SMART.

Cons: SATA II. Not really a con, but it is noticeably slower than a WD blue 500gb

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do, work in a PVR/DVR. Runs quiet and cool. I am using it in a Bell 9242 PVR (Dish 962 equivalent ?)

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: This drive is a video grade drive and it's meant to be used in a PVR/DVR or security camera recorders. You should never do what Semi-GREEK did, use it in a computer. Video drives do not have error correction in order to keep the data stream flowing, but in a computer one missing bit in file can mean loss of huge files.
