This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: None.

Cons: This was the first non-WD boot drive I had ever installed, and as it turned out, that was a big mistake. Drive failed after less than two years and is no longer recognizable as a boot-drive are data-drive in any type of internal or external installation. I've already replaced this piece of junk with a WD Black drive, along with its 5-year warranty, drives with which I have never had a failure or any sort in over two decades of installations. Live and learn.

1 out of 5 eggsI would not pay $25 to own this drive again

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Very decent price for 2 TB, quiet.

Cons: Probably the absolutely worst HDD I have ever owned in my life. Speeds were advertised as 150Mb/s, yet I cannot get my Built PC (With a 4.4 GHz quad-core Intel CPU) to boot up to the desktop in under 8 minutes. Everything that could be wrong with this hard drive is wrong. Reading speeds are off the charts; in the negative direction.
Absolutely Unreliable. Luckily, I had a back up hooked up when this drive decided to fail me (Multiple times). After going into the details and analyzing this Hard drive, I found out that the drivers are from JANUARY 2006 WITH NO UPDATES AVAILABLE, ever. No wonder the price is so low. Unfortunately I fell for it.

Owned for about 9 months.

Other Thoughts: Now selling this garbage and buying a a WD HDD along with a 500GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD.

4 out of 5 eggsHasn't broke yet

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Plenty of storage, not loud, hasn't broke.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I now have two of these for just data storage in my primary desktop. I've had one for over a year and so I decided to buy another. They're just hard drives so there's not much to say about them, but they don't make a ton of noise and they haven't failed on me so that's about all I really hope for.

1 out of 5 eggshttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=22-148-834

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap Price, Lots of Storage, 7200 RPM 6Gbps
HDD Tune showing avg 150Mbps on a Gigabyte Z68 MB with 8Gb of DDR3 1600 memory. Burst rate near 250 Mbs

Cons: I bought 2 of these drives some time ago but was not able to install them due to a severe injury. I got to it about 2 months ago, running SMART tests on it I've already got several categories highlighted in Yellow, including Spin Retry Count and a number of "unknown attributes that are with a point or a few points of failure threshold.

Other Thoughts: These are my main 2 drives and both are exhibiting same yellow flagged failures. I'm copying my data over to 2 ancient WD 400G drives. I plan on getting new WD Black drives and dumping these before they dump me.
Budget drives...Budget Reliability. For now on I'll save my wasted money by spending a bit more up front rather than losing alot on the back end.

1 out of 5 eggsST20000DM001

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Quiet

Cons: Drive failed to hold a format. Seagate replace it after 30 days of ownership. I let it sit in the original bag for a few months until it was needed. Formatted fine, then chkdsk /r failed. SeaTools Self Test failed. Warranty showed out of warranty. So this basically new drive is going to the landfill. Sad.

Other Thoughts: I have trusted Seagate for over a decade. I have heard from my IT tech peers that Seagate reliability has gone WAY down in the past year or two, especially for drives larger than 1 GB. Maybe this is related to the Maxtor merger? This is my 3rd Seagate failure in 6 months. Next drive will be WD or something else.
