4 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive, Great Price

Pros: Drive is great for the price.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: For Windows:
You must initialize the drive first and assign your drive letter in Disk Manager. To avoid a split partition (2TB & 1TB) use GPT instead of MBR. This is a limitation to MBR. The drive does not come with the split partitions by default (I've seen some comments that the drive comes this way). As the user you are responsible for the setup, so please be informed before setting this up.

Overall the drive performs well and does what I need and is a great value.

4 out of 5 eggsToo soon to gauge reliability

Pros: Excellent price for this size/warranty drive.

Solid looking build with some heft. In theory a good drive that should stand up to the usual daily routines.

If you are concerned about the reliability, maybe look at buying an extended warranty. But at this price, I'll take my chances. See my other thoughts below.

Cons: Not really a con, but you have to know how to deal with a 3TB drive in Windows that will only see 2TB and leave the rest of the drive "Unallocated".

Someone has already written instructions on how to achieve this in the reviews below. However, he omitted one important step. When you see the Drive in the Management section, you need to Right Click in the box that shows Disk X (the new drive) and then select "Convert to GPT Disk". Once this is done, you will see the full 3TB (actually 2.72 or thereabouts) and you can go ahead with the formatting. A word of caution, if you decide to do a full format, which should be checking for disk errors at the same time, be aware that this is a lengthy process and can take many hours to complete. You should schedule this for an overnighter.

Other Thoughts: I will keep a separate backup of all items that I store on this drive until a reasonable amount of time has passed (6-9 months?). I use EaseUS EverySync to mirror all (or selected) files and changes in realtime.

Of course, at this price you could set up a RAID 1 with two of these drives if you and your computer are up for it.

5 out of 5 eggsOne day use and stable on Linux

Pros: I have had this drive for over a day. I installed it in my Linux NAS machine. It recognizes 2.72tb but that's fine for my needs. So far so good. It seems to be running a little cooler to the touch than some of my sata2 hard drives.

Cons: No screws or power connector. But that's an easy fix for me.

Other Thoughts: I will update later after I do a couple of back ups and network streaming.

1 out of 5 eggsDrive Failure 2 months

Pros: Size and price

Cons: Drive failure

Other Thoughts: Got the drive for backup storage for movies and media. Drive started failing in 2 months and at the worst possible time. 20 years and never a failed drive under 4 years. I guess i got lucky this time

1 out of 5 eggsFailed and warranty not available for Canadian addresses... Buyer beware!!!

Pros: Fast. Very quiet.

Cons: Failed in under 2 years.

Other Thoughts: I tried to get a replacement with Toshiba and they do not allow Canadian addresses. What a joke of a company. Hopefully Newegg can pull through because they sold me this item while I was under the impression I could receive warranty service in Canada.

5 out of 5 eggsIt isn't a retail kit. Just a bare drive.

Pros: Fast, large and cheap.

Cons: I had to use Acronis disk manager to partition the drive to full capacity. Windows 7 storage manager would get it done for me. A retail kit comes with software, cables, mounting brackets and screws. Toshiba has got the message yet.

Other Thoughts: I am very pleased with the drive. This is the second Tosiba that I bought and both are running fine.

1 out of 5 eggsGet it if you have time to waste

Pros: The low price for a 3tb drive(which is the result of a poor product)

Cons: Well, I bought the drive thinking this will be easy to install. Nope. Windows sees it as 750gb. It seems a lot of people are having the same problem as I am. So, I go to the Toshiba site to see if they can help. All their support seems to be pay as you go. So, I go to see If I can get support on the drive and the place where you enter in the SN keeps telling me it's invalid. It's not worth the hassle.

5 out of 5 eggsThey're In There

Pros: Competitive price, good spec's, better rated than most of the other 3 TB drives.

Cons: See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Drives are too new to really say anything about them one way or the other. Bought them for a simple raid mirror. My SSD crashed and then was unbootable after installation (this happened twice). Replaced the SSD, and didn't have anymore issues.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Price was good for 3 ter drive

Cons: To update my previous review the drive completely failed after 4 days of use. Not even enough warning to save data if I had not backed up. Now waiting for RMA return.

Other Thoughts: I will be without the drive for two and a half weeks while it goes to CA, gets processed and comes back .I will also be without the money I spent for shipping to return a defective product I had only 3 days plus the hassle. Not such a good deal after all.
