5 out of 5 eggsUnbelievable. This thing is still alive since the summer of 2007

Pros: - Apparently a much longer lasting drive than the so-called better drive manufacturers

Cons: - None since it was bought in 2007

Other Thoughts: I don't know why, maybe it's simply that I don't keep any OS on this drive, but this Samsung HDD has never once lost any data since 2007! I've had 3 Western Digitals die since then. Maybe it's because I always the WDs as the OS drive and they have way more work to do? But still, I've used this drive for a ton of data, probably over 20 terabytes have been stored on it on and off.

5 out of 5 eggsthe Tank of all drives

Pros: The drive came stock with my HP Pavilion Slimline s3300f in 2007. It has never failed me since then ! It's one of the last thing I still have from this computer (along with the DVD-drive and up until 3 days ago, the CPU) and I can say it's an extremely reliable drive.

After all these years, it's still up to its specs, and I don't plan on replacing it soon ! Just bought a 1TB to put all my games in, but Windows is still in this one and the boot time is still really good !

It's sad they are discontinued, though...

Cons: Absolutely none.

Other Thoughts: Survived all my experiences with computer, as growing me learn more and more about computers. This is a pure tank.

5 out of 5 eggsLong life

Pros: Reliable, fast, and decent capacity (for the time).

Cons: Noisy, they grind away when reading and writing.

Other Thoughts: I bought three of these drives in 2006/2007 for my HTPC. Over the years I've replaced everything in the case but the drives. Now after 7-8 years of running 24/7 I'm finally stepping up to 4TB drives. The first was given away and the second is living on in an external case as a portable. The third will eventually be replaced too. I was surprised to see they're still available for purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsLONG LASTING

Pros: Ive had this drive for almost 10 years now. and i still use it, i need to upgrade but the drive for being 9 and 1/2 years old runs like its brand new... im actually running out of space on it

Cons: Speed, Size, not having to try weird things to make it work...

Other Thoughts: New rig with old drives needs them upgraded
AsRock 990FX Extreme 3
AMD FX-8350 (4.5Ghz)
XFX R6750 Core Edition (Want MSI R9 280 or 270X)
EVGA Supernova 650 watt 80 gold
Thermaltake Level 10 GTS (Windowed side)

5 out of 5 eggsSad to see this discontinued...

Pros: I bought two of these drives 5 years ago and I still use them in my primary system today! These are by far the most superb drives on the market, extremely reliable!

Cons: I have noticed over the years that these drives can be sensitive to the cold. Don't leave your system in a cold vehicle and immediately boot it up!

5 out of 5 eggsstill workin nice & quite

Pros: I have swapped this drive in & out of multiple computers and it just keeps going along.

Cons: Can get a little noise at times when it's spinning hard.

Other Thoughts: Throughput
is fast for a sata-3 gps. But when it spins up you can hear it. But never fails !

2 out of 5 eggs5 years to the day!

Pros: it was pretty quiet.
5 years was long enough to get pushed back to backup drive status. click of death, only partially accessible. very strange.

Cons: It died, and I haven't used it regularly for a couple years.

Other Thoughts: I could have sworn it had a 5 year warranty when I bought it, but that wouldn't have mattered. Bought 2 of these for a buck-30 on the 19th of April back in 2007. Now I'm worried about the other one... it's also a backup drive but for more important data. yikes. I have a Maxtor from 12 years ago, and 2 other Maxtors from 2005, all going strong, rarely going, but strong when going. Poor Maxtor.

4 out of 5 eggsworked while it worked

Pros: It worked up till now, staring to get random BSODs and start up sometimes dont happen.

This was a pretty quit drive as well

Cons: Lasted 5 years 1 month, wish for more as of now prices of HDD are kind of high due to weather disasters (at least thats what I have read).

Samsung is made by Seagate now so will see whats available.

Other Thoughts: Probably kind of pointless to review something but I was looking at my purchase history figured why not!

1 out of 5 eggsDead after warranty expired

Pros: Worked well when I needed it to.

Cons: Died 3 months after the 3 year manufacturer warranty expired. Right on par with sub mediocrity from a Samsung product.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Drive Ever

Pros: cheap

Cons: i've had problems with this drive ever since I bought it:
failed 6 times had it for 2 years
drive slow to respond
windows sometimes doesn't detect it
I have other drives by samsung and had the same problem
If you want a reliable drive don't buy any drives by samsung all they are is total junk
