4 out of 5 eggsQuality Drive

Pros: Large storage capacity, inexpensive storage, reasonable performance. Hold up well so far.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have had three of these drives for over 4 years and had no problems. The same can not be said of the WD Green drive that was purchased at the same time. These drives have not seen a lot of powered run time, as they have been used for offline storage. However, four years after purchase they still perform perfectly. I just put all three of the drives through a rigorous certification test and all three of them pass without a bad sector in the bunch. I also have six of the F4 series of this drive and haven't had a single problem with any of them either.

5 out of 5 eggsgood harddrive

Pros: decent price at the time of purchase. it worked great, it's past warranty now and shows no signs of breaking down nor errors i ran a diskcheck on it, i did not do the longterm check i didnt deem it necessary i have had no issues.

performs fairly fast for a non ssd hdd

Cons: none that i can think of actually, good little drive

Other Thoughts: i would suggest cooling this harrddrive adequately. i have a 120mm fan blowing over the harddrive and i noticed a 20c degree difference in having a fan blow on it and it was 20c higher when the fan was turned off so definitly recommend active cooling to keep the harddrive life a little longer

3 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Support SMART

Pros: I've had it running almost none stop for 2 years and it hasn't given me an issue yet

Cons: This hard drive does not support S.M.A.R.T. so even if there were any issues I wouldn't know until it crapped out on me. There is other software out there you can use to monitor it and give you a basic idea but without S.M.A.R.T. they only give you the basic info.

Other Thoughts: It isn't a bad drive but as someone who works in a tech field, if I had to recommend a drive to a client this would not make the list.

5 out of 5 eggsFaster than my old HDD

Pros: Gets about 100mb/sec read/write, produces little heat, and is quiet.

Cons: None really

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality, Poor Service

Pros: When it ran it ran quietly and was cool to the touch.

Cons: One day when booting: CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK.

I had it RMA'd with Samsung. Got it back. Plugged it in.

CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK.

I turned SMART on (didn't know it was off) and the drive failed.

They sent me the same drive back without testing it.

Other Thoughts: I'm not very happy with Samsung support right now. Now I have to pay more money to have it shipped back to them for an RMA again and hope they actually do something.

1 out of 5 eggsWas good for a bit but developing bad sectors fast

Pros: Cheap and quiet

Cons: Developed bad sectors on both drives which lead to a general slow down of the drive. Caused raid 5 array to loose data in that sector.

Other Thoughts: Samsung does not offer an advanced RMA option ... this means that i will have purchase some sort of temporary archive solution to keep my good data until my replacement drives.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate ....going on 1 year

Pros: The samsung f3 hd203wi were a good price. I had to send back four Western Digital Caviar Green WD15EARS 1.5TB drives, as they completely failed to operate in a linux raid 5. Mdadm assembled them correctly, they formatted, and they mounted just fine. But the raid performance was horrible. Sent them back, ordered 3 samsungs, and created a linux raid 5 using mdadm and everything went smoothly. Performance is great. I have gigabit lan, and I can pull files from the server across the wire at around 50 megabytes a second. This is a home file server, that's mirrored to another linux file server. I can lose one drive, and the array will keep going. If I lose two, I lose the whole array. But the server is mirrored every so often. So I won't lose much.

Cons: No cons yet. I notice a lot of DOAs in the reviews, but I checked out the DOAs and problems with every other 1.5TB drive and higher, and it seems that we're stuck picking the least ugly failure rate.

2 out of 5 eggsAlmost usable

Pros: Lasted 10 months

Cons: Can't write more than 1TB. If I try, Vista hangs (have to power cycle).

Other Thoughts: Samsung's RMA site is written in Lynglish -- me no like.

4 out of 5 eggsonly phone support 4 these

Pros: I have 5 of these drives, 4 in a RAID 5 external box and one spare. They have functioned well but when looking for additional drives support was lacking on line (see below). They did provide a contact # 1-800-726-7864 but where have these drives gone after a brief period and what do I do if 2 drives fail in this RAID config?

Cons: Glenn: SAMSUNG EcoGreen F3 HD203WI 2TB 5400 RPM 32MB

Susana Y: Please go ahead with your quesions.

Susana Y: questions*

Glenn: I am looking for support information on this internal hard drive on your site

Glenn: the F series provides no model #s in product locator

Susana Y: I apologize; at present we at the Live Chat are not handling the product you have as it requires special training and expertise. We do have a dedicated support for this product. You can reach them by calling at: 1-800-Samsung (1-800-726-7864) anyday between 9 am to 9 pm, EST. I once again apologize for the inconvenience.

Susana Y: Can I help you with anything else?

Glenn: I have 5 of these drives. It is a little scary that you have no listing for them on line. They are recent 2 TB designs

Susana Y: I can understand. However, you can get the assistance by calling the above number.

Glenn: I'll list your response with the on-line vendor reviews at New Egg.
