3 out of 5 eggsNoisy

Pros: It works fine with the eSATA connection. I'm using Nero Backup, and it's saved me from a couple of software malfunctions that corrupted files.

Cons: It's VERY noisy. The "ventilation" is a joke, with six under 1/4" holes in the back of the enclosure. They try to compensate by making the enclosure one big finned heatsink, but the poor little internal fan is constantly running full speed. Don't even think of stashing this thing somewhere with poor ventilation, even if it does cut down on the noise.

Other Thoughts: The huge blue "eyeball" would be an issue if I didn't have it under my desk pointing into a corner. I just wonder what Security thinks when they come through at night and see the brilliant unearthly glow bathing my office in an occult blue light.

1 out of 5 eggsnot worth it

Pros: size, price, convenience

Cons: died after only 2 years of use

Other Thoughts: the cost to recover the data from the drives inside this thing is going to far exceed the cost of having purchased a backup for my backup (which i didn't do). complete waste.

2 out of 5 eggsnice but...

Pros: nice and tough building and heavy stuff

Cons: hard drives fragiles... and apparently not tested, Stunning from LaCie

Other Thoughts: i received my LaCie big Quadra 2 To to store my pictures and use the Raid functions, but i work on Pc so, first annoying feeling is when i saw that the HD were formated for Mac. Then one of the 2 hard drives never worked and was on red LED all the time. Obliged to send it back and to pay $16 and to wait... to wait.
This is the first time i m disapointed by some stuff i buy on Newegg.

4 out of 5 eggsWork great so far

Pros: Rock solid construction take most Lacie products

Cons: I switch mine from raid 0 to raid 1 and it took a few trys to get it to actually do it. The indicator on the back showed raid 1 but the drive kept mounting as 2TB.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid, fast, cool, reliable

Pros: Solid build quality. Easy to setup. Runs cool and quiet. So far has been extremely reliable.

Cons: None, really (see other thoughts).

Other Thoughts: Would be nice if LaCie provided managment software to monitor the health of the device from a local or remote host. The ?big line of raid are apparently designed for desktop users but I use both a 2big and a 4big on a server located in my basement. Being able to monitor the health remotely, and not have to rely on being able to see the flashing LEDs to learn of a problem, would be a nice touch. Not really a con since the device works great for its intended audience but it does limit its flexibility.

Other than that, I've been very happy with both the quality, reliability and performance of the 2big and 4big I own and would definitely buy them again.

5 out of 5 eggsEasu Raid Setup

Pros: I have 2 of these and the best thing about them is it's very easy to setup Raid 1 on these. No configuring just press a couple of buttons and format.
That's it. I highly recommend. I use the Esata connection. Fast enough for AVID and FCP.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Wish I could buy more :)

1 out of 5 eggsOverall a Pain

Pros: Metal is worth more for scrap, and OS is an example of what not to do.
3rd party hard drives were the only piece that didn't fail.

Cons: Pushing 3 years and it's never worked right. Tech support thew parts at it; 4 total PSU, 2 new cases, AFP stopped one day and a corrupted OS that would not update. Tech support wanted me to wipe all my data (again) and reinstall.

Other Thoughts: I think I'm mailing them a lemon so they know what one looks like.

1 out of 5 eggsSo Far So Good - Update 2

Pros: Large capacity, multiple I/O options, multiple RAID options, cooling fan.

Cons: Short life

Other Thoughts: Well, just got the results back from the Data Recovery company. All files are recoverable, although it had to undergo cleanroom engineering, thus I trust the unit will not be useable in the future. Let's see....Including new hardware to put the recovered files on and the Blu Ray burner to back up to in the future, plus the cost of the 2Big....grand total about $2,500. LIVE AND LEARN
