The eSATA Hub also boosts transfer speeds and even allows users to daisy chain with other Thunderbolt peripherals.

Connect eSATA Drives to New Macs

Better speeds, better value. With the eSATA Hub Thunderbolt Series, you can now connect eSATA drives to your Thunderbolt-compatible Mac. Connect up to two drives to the Hub, which connects to the Thunderbolt port on your new Mac.

The eSATA Hub is the perfect solution for companies that use eSATA drives, but have upgraded their Macs to versions without ExpressCard/34 slots. It also offers a great way for photographers or other creatives to boost eSATA drive performance.

Unleashing Full eSATA Speeds

Unleashing Full eSATA Speeds

icon for high speedThe ExpressCard/34 maximum bus speed is 2.5Gbps, which limits eSATA 3Gbps transfer speeds. The eSATA Hub clears this bottleneck, since Thunderbolt's 10Gbps provides more than enough speed to accommodate 3Gbps. Achieve the full speed potential of your eSATA drives.

Bring New Value to Your Storage

Bring New Value to Your Storage

icon for Bringing New Value to Your StorageYou already own eSATA drives, but can't connect them to your new Mac. The eSATA Hub modernizes your drives and puts them back to work. You don't have to buy new drives and scrap the old ones. eSATA and Thunderbolt connections are even software RAID compatible. Upgrade your storage with Thunderbolt technology.

Daisy Chain for Convenience

Thunderbolt technology supports daisy chaining, so you can connect a display or other Thunderbolt device to the eSATA Hub. This means you can connect, for example, your high-end LaCie 324i display and your eSATA Hub to your Mac via a single Thunderbolt cable. Thunderbolt technology also supports two channels – one dedicated for data, and the other for video – each with 10Gbps of bandwidth. This means you can push and pull audio/video data without reducing bandwidth. Maximum convenience, minimum desktop clutter.

5 out of 5 eggsFAST!

Pros: This Thunderbolt eSATA hub works perfectly and is faster than other eSATA interfaces I own.
I love the fact that the design matches across the LaCie product lines.
This LaCie hub is a great way to get your existing eSATA storage devices to work on your new Thunderbolt Mac.

Cons: I don't recommend that you try to hot-plug an eSATA device - power your Mac off, connect the eSATA disk then turn on your Mac.
Shutdown the Mac before removing the eSATA device.
I tried hot plugging my Antec MX-25 eSATA disk and the entire
Thunderbolt system went offline - I rebooted and everything was fine.

Other Thoughts: I am VERY satisfied with my purchase.
LaCie makes beautiful, high-performance,
reliable devices and all of my new storage
is Thunderbolt from LaCie.
I'm using this hub to attach some
eSATA external enclosures to access data
on my old SATA I/II 2.5 in. drives.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat alternative to FireWire for new Macs

Pros: Fast, reliable, easy to use. This unit allows for transfers much faster than you would be able to achieve on anything besides a Thunderbolt drive, at a fraction of the cost. I use this in conjunction with my Macbook Pro to download files from high end cinema cameras to duplicate drives. When copying to my G-Tech G-RAID drives, I can consistently get 200-250 MB/s per drive.

Cons: Thunderbolt cable not included, so add an extra $40 to the price of this unit for one.

1 out of 5 eggsDOD

Pros: nice paperweight.

Cons: Arrived Dead on Delivery, does not include thunderbolt or esata cords.

Other Thoughts: After ordering the cords, realized the unit wouldn't power up. S&H is ten bucks, so I'm hoping the next one isn't d.o.d. as well.
