5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Option

Pros: USB 3.0 and 1 TB is huge for this price.

I have been using this for music storage for a while now, and beats the hell out using eSATA drives.

The BackUp option (which I don't use, but tested) is really user friendly and easy to setup and use. (Going back and changing the options is also really easy for people who might not be the most tech savvy.) I would, without hesitation, recommend this as solid backup option for most people. Although I still don't completely get the save from Facebook option, I supposed if your account got hacked and you lost it, it would come in handy, but that happens extremely rarely.

The fact that it can be hooked up via traditional sata cables (and sata power cable) is pretty cool.

Extremely Lightweight and Compact, you won't even notice it your pack.

The drive itself performs great, it is quick and zippy.

Cons: Really short wire. I think I read you can get an 18" wire, but that doesn't add a lot to the existing (est. 10") wire that comes with it, and it the port on the drive itself is something like I've never seen before, so you are most likely limited to buying a cable from seagate and seagate only, which usually equivalates to an expensive wire. But I have to mention that the likelihood you'd need a longer wire is so slim, I understand why didn't make a much longer on. So it's a stretch as con, more just making you aware.

From above: "The fact that it can be hooked up via traditional sata cables (and sata power cable) is pretty cool." BUT, i see no real use for it, the drive does fit in either of my HDD docks, so the functionality of this feature seems lost.

The lack of a powered option is downfall as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of not having the extra wires, but there are times it would be nice to have it available if needed. But that is my stretch at coming up with another con.

For this price I have to assume it is a traditional HDD, which means despite it's portability is subject to the same restrictions as another traditional HDD, as opposed to a SSD, meaning that heat, magnetism, and dropping it, are extremely bad for it. So make sure you handle it with care. But again that is another stretch for a con, because currently these type drives are the only option we have, anyone that is using SSD's for backup have a lot more money than I do.

Other Thoughts: I would easily recommend this drive to anyone for any reason that they might need the extra drive, and the price is hard to beat, especially for 1TB. (Based on my assumption that it is a 2.5 HDD inside the case, it is cheaper with the case than you can get a 1TB HDD without a case currently. I am also assuming it is 5400rpm drive, which is also standard for "backup" drives, (and most inexpensive laptops), for 99% of the things you would use an HDD for you'd never even notice the difference between a 7200rpm and 5400rpm drive)

Test Systems:

Laptop: lenovo IdeaPad Z570 (1024XB3) Notebook Intel Core i5 2410M(2.30GHz) 15.6" Wide XGA 8GB Memory DDR3 1333 750GB HDD 7200rpm DVD±R/RW Intel HD Graphics 3000

2 out of 5 eggsUnrealiable

Pros: Worked great while it lasted. Was reasonably fast for the price. USB 3.0. Small form factor.

Cons: Died after only a few months. Babied it the whole time. Never dropped, never did anything to it. Never overheated. One day plugged it in and it was dead. Light flashes, but nothing ever happens. For the price, I expected this to last much much more.

Other Thoughts: I expected better from the Seagate brand. I came to know them as a company making reliable products before, but now there is reason to think otherwise.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy This!!

Pros: None

Cons: Having owned this product for about 5 months, I was devastated to find that it suddenly stopped being recognized by my computer. There appeared to be some type of hardware issue preventing it from connecting. Having contacted Seagate, I was informed this was indeed the case and that while they could replace the hard drive, there was no way to recover any of my data. This hard drive received good care and was never dropped or messed up in any way! Seagate is entirely responsible for the loss of my data, and accepts no liability. This hard drive will, I repeat, WILL stop working for you. Do not buy this product.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what it needs to do

Pros: It's an external hard drive...what more needs to be said? It's read / write speeds are average and so far it seems to be doing a great job.

Cons: The bus connector seems to be a little cheap and I'm afaird at somepoint it will get broken. The USB conector is not a usual type conector, so itf that also broke I am out of luck.

Other Thoughts: Good drive for the money

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Gift Idea

Pros: Got a pair of these for gifts to my daughters so they have for image HDD in windows 7 and 8 for their respective computers, I partitioned them for 2 images then the rest is set for data storage , was no problems with this and all went smooth and the girls are happy with them. If they are happy Daddy is happy

Cons: Price needs to come down some more yet

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Versitile External Hard Drive

Pros: Awesome fast Hard Drive I've been using for the past few months.
Super portable, I use this instead of a traditional flash drive when I go to shcool.
USB 3.0 is awesomely fast!

It is "two parts" as in you can take the SATA connector and use it to connect other hard drives to your computer through USB 3.0. Did this to transfer files from my old broken Laptop to my brand new laptop. Just pull off the connector, plug it into a different hard drive, plug it into your computer through the provided cable, and you're good to go.

Cons: The software Seagate provides is okay, but it keeps eating up my CPU like crazy, up to 75% of my CPU sometimes (on a i7 3632QM Quad Core clocked at 2.2GHz. )

But, the software isn't required to use the drive though.

5 out of 5 eggsPS3 Backup

Pros: I backed up my 320 GIG PS3 and my PC. It takes a special tool to format fat 32 @ 1 gig in windows. This is the only format the PS3 recognizes so you will need to Google it and be handy with command prompt.

Cons: None
