5 out of 5 eggsFantom GF500EU works for me!

Pros: I've owned and used this for many years, 4 or 5 now without any issues at all. I can't remember how much I paid, but being the penny pincher that I am, I KNOW I waited for a deal and that is just what I got all the way around. I never connected it via esata, but it really functions well thru the USB anyway. BTW, I recently connected it to my network/cloud so I could save from my laptop.....still works well and fast enough for what I need. Haven't read the other reviews yet, but if there are negative ones, they're just looking for champagne on a beer budget!! 5 Eggs for Newegg & for this Fantom drive.
.......revamping my computer now and moving the drive back over as its backup drive....hopefully it keeps on kickin'!

Cons: None at all with product....more and better than expected.......thank you!

Other Thoughts: Will look for another, higher capacity version in the future when needed, if available!

4 out of 5 eggsGood Hard Drive

Pros: Lasted longer than the warranty. Quiet for most of its life.

Cons: Failed about 4 year to the date.

Other Thoughts: Drives today do not seem to last as long as they did in the past. At least they warn you when they are failing and are relatively cheap to begin with.

2 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: Attractive case

Cons: Push back style tech support, below average MTBF, no sata cable

Other Thoughts: I'm not happy that the drive started to fail precisely 12.5 months after purchase with a 12 month warranty. Tech support is apathetic and offered to 'fix' the drive for 'as low as' the cost of a replacement drive. With eSATA being an advertised feature, they don't really go out of the way to advertise that no cable is included. It's a shame, it's a pretty nice looking case at a pretty good price, but ultimately there is no free lunch here. I would have given it a 3 (average) if I didn't feel tech support was more interested in arguing then helping.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: Great drive, takes up little space. Heavy, solid construction. I've now owned mine for a little over two years and still works perfect. I'd much rather have my files,pics,MP3's etc....stored on a drive that's paid for than the constant monthly fees for a web based storage solution.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Buy it and back up your needed files and you won't be crying next time your hardrive crashes on you.

5 out of 5 eggsWell-built

Pros: Very nice ALL-metal construction...feels really solid. Respectable performance for a USB HDD. No DOA's out of 4 units. Good price for the capacity. Comes NTFS formated.

Cons: Looks like it was designed by a certain fruit company. Included USB cable is a bit short.

Other Thoughts: CrystalDiskMark Scores:
31.31MB/s Sequential Read
27.24MB/s Sequential Write

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent

Pros: Fast, reliable, stable, not too hot or loud.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: This drive is about 80% full and I have used it so hard non stop for a long time now (I do a lot of music production and save work to it continually). It has never given me any problems and it seems to be really reliable. It gets warm after a lot of continual use, but thats to be expected.

I just want to say I'm extremely happy with this drive and will probably get second one.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked Great For A Year

Pros: Low cost, attractive, reasonably fast. Esata port. Good for storing things that are not critical.

Cons: Drive is about to fail-starting to lose sectors almost daily. Has always run a little on the hot side-Per Data Sentinel 45C. Noticed a slight clicking sound when the lost sectors began to arrive-slightly after the one year mark-imagine that. Data Sentinel puts its health at 9%. Once you get past 500gb storage I thinks its probably time to kick in an extra $20 and get a reliable drive.

Other Thoughts: I hate the reviews that are done after one week-what a waste of space.
