The Fantom G-Force drives provide a lot of storage at a reasonable price. Plus they offer both USB 2.0 and eSATA connectivity for high speed data transfers. The eSATA connection transfers data at a blazing fast 300MB/s so data will move on and off the drive as soon as you click "save".

The drive will work on PCs with Windows 2000 and newer and Macs with OS X 10.2 or higher.

Pros: Vista recognized it right away and I was able to format it quickly. Works as advertised. It has a nice casing, looks good.

Cons: doesn't come with an eSATA cable, but I suppose that keeps the price down.

Other Thoughts: Once formatted the drive has 931GB of available space.

Fantom Data on this file corrupting paperweight

Pros: It wasn't on fire when pulled from the box.

Cons: Stay away from this drive if you value your data. This hunk of junk happily corrupted 100G of important info that was supposed to be *backed up* to it. Copy your data to it and wait for the Fantom to come and make it all magically disappear. It crashed explorer multiple times on multiple machines. Constantly caused write delay failures when trying to read data from it. Never before has a single product caused such a headache. Used the eSATA and USB interfaces with the same result.

Other Thoughts: It is possible the hard drive in this thing is the culprit. It shows a Western Digital drive when discovered. Regardless, the Fantom name only means one thing to me, NO MORE DATA!

Noisy Drive

Pros: Purchased 6/11/09 with $20 rebate, which I have yet to see.

Cons: Very noisy drive (since day one) when writing, scratchy sounds that seem to resonate inside the box, audible several feet away, even with the background noise of a computer.
Light use only, for time machine backups. So, I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Rebate website not helpful at all at providing status of rebate process.
Again, no rebate in sight, after 5months+ (21 weeks.)

Pros: Large Storage at a good price...

I also purchase an eSata card for my system and this works very well. I mirror everything on my computer to this drive as a backup incase of a crash.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: NewEgg was fast on delivery... Just made another purchase as I like the price and delivery times.
