5 out of 5 eggsAll working fine

Pros: Bought five (over a few different orders) and have them in my drobo 5D. Never had any problems with the 3T versions.

Cons: None.. They just hum away in my drobo.

Other Thoughts: Been depending on WD drives now for two years. Ordering WD exclusively for all new purchases. Had others go bad too quickly. Also have 4T and 2T WD drives.
Did have (2) 4T WD drives arrive bad (looked like they had been hit with something in transit) and NewEgg was great with the return and immediately replaced. The new ones are working great.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: These drives work as advertised. I have used them in a Synology 214+ and in an external USB enclosure.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I bought them in a three pack, saved a few dollars.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent drive

Pros: Purchased four drives and did the full extended test on each drive with WD's DLGDIAG tool and everything passed.

Just over a month in and the drives are actively being monitored without any issues.

+Low temperatures and low noise
+Price

Cons: It's a drive, it will die someday, expect it and prepare

Other Thoughts: Using in a NAS RAID Server 2012 environment.

4 out of 5 eggsCheck each drive for vibration

Pros: Purchased 6 of these drives from NewEgg. 5/6 drives were fine and worked as they should. .

Cons: One (1/6) drive had a very significant vibration and had to go back to NewEgg for RMA replacement. Several people have reported heavy vibration in these drives. Feel the drives before mounting them! Some minor spin vibration is completely normal, but excessive vibration can transfer through the drive cage to other drives.

Other Thoughts: When I returned the vibrating drive, it was damaged in return shipping which led to a big headache and delay! NewEgg eventually took care of the issue with their excellent customer service. When returning a drive(s), double-box them, even if NewEgg sent them single-boxed!

I returned my drive in the drive box and with the same bubble wrap that NewEgg sent me. This was exactly the same way that NewEgg sent my replacement drive, except they sent it via OnTrac, and my return went UPS. My RMA replacement box had one of the bubble-wrap compartments collapsed, but fortunately, the drive tested okay and did not exhibit excessive vibration.

I cannot tell if the original vibrating drive was like that from the factory, or damaged during shipping. In any event, I think WD should make the drives a bit more sturdy so that even when properly packaged (as they were presumably from WD and definitely from NewEgg), the drives aren't so susceptible to shock damage while parked.

I remain a loyal and happy NewEgg customer and hope that Western Digital can take this feedback to improve their products. They're good, but they could get better.

3 out of 5 eggsWhat's up with these

Pros: All drives pass "complete smart test" and test out on WD's Lifeguard Diagnostics. But ... Drives do not stay on line ... is it the drives or NAS

Cons: Ordered 4 drives. One failed smart test at get go. Replaced by Newegg. Now I'm in nowhere's land and starting to suspect the drives .... see other thoughts below

Other Thoughts: I have a QNAP TS-451 4 drive NAS. filled with 4 WD Red 3T drives. My NAS can't seem to stay up more then a couple of months with out a drive getting a read error and being taken off line. The drive always passes it's Smart Test (complete) and twice each drive has gone though WD's Lifeguard Diagnostics (each one has passed). The NAS is on a approved UPS so it's not power glitches. I did a compete memory test on the NAS ... no problems. I have replaced the NAS and still have drives falling off ... So now I'm suspecting the drives.

So, what to do with this expensive brick ... buy more drives even thought they check out??? Perhaps a different brand of drive? OR maybe buy another brand of NAS and see if these drives work better in it? You tell me ... I rated these drives 3 stars because I'm not sure ... (just a data point for those who are shopping ... hope you don't have the same fate)

5 out of 5 eggsWorking Well! 3X Raid 5 ESATA

Pros: Using in an Esata box with RAID 5 (3 drives so far), plan to add hot spare and expand in the future. Cool running and decent perforance (crystal diskmark SEQ 500MB read 115MB/s with raid 5 and encryption and write 125MB/s). No noise yet I dont sleep next to it either. +eggs for good packaging and quick delivery from newegg!

Cons: all is well so far

Other Thoughts: please handle carefully, use a static wrist band to avoid damaging. performance will increase with additional drives and plan till fill all 8 bays making one drive the hot spare.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: I had 2 WD Green 2TB drives running in RAID 1 for about 2 years in my DS211J. Drive 2 always ran a couple degrees hotter than drive one because of the air flow inside the NAS enclosure. Drive 2 failed. I replaced the WD Green drives with a pair of these WD Red 3TB drives about 4 months ago. The transition over went very smoothly and I have had no problem with these drives to date. The second drive still runs a couple degrees warmer inside the DS211J.

Cons: No cons to date.

5 out of 5 eggsNo issues

Pros: Been installed for about a year with no issues. Set up 6 of these in a raidz2 pool connected directly to the mb.

Cons: The fact that HDD manufacturers are able to market drives as x TB when we all know it is a lot less. But that is a rant for the pub.

Other Thoughts: This is a home system primarily used as a media server and backup target for a few PCs along with hosting a few virtual hard drives that I tinker with, so I have by no means seriously tested these under load.
