This review is from: WD Blue 750GB Mobile 9.5 mm Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5 Inch - WD7500BPVX

Pros: Installed this HD in a portable 2.5" case to use it as an external HD drive for storing movies files. I use it everyday and it's been running great without any issues.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Always like WD hard drives, never have any problems with WD HD and will continue to use WD products

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Value

This review is from: WD Blue 750GB Mobile 9.5 mm Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5 Inch - WD7500BPVX

Pros: I bought this hard drive because it was the largest of the budget hard drives. When I purchased it, speed was a secondary concern. Storage was my primary concern.
When I pulled the old hard drive out of my laptop I discovered that it was also a Western Digital Blue hard drive from the Scropio line. Pretty much the exact same thing, just smaller in capacity and quite a few years older.
At that point I thought, well, this new one isn't going to speed up my system at all. Fortunately I was mistaken. The increase in speed wasn't great, but I get on average about 10-15 MB/sec sustained transfer speeds.
The Black, Red and Purple drives are all faster, but you can't beat the capacity this drive offers for the price.
This drive is quiet. I haven't noticed any noise from it at all.
It seems to run cool.
I've had it running for days on end with no issues. It wasn't sitting idle the entire time. I was using my laptop as a server to host data. The upload speeds weren't much, only maybe 5 MB/sec peak. But it was sustained for several days and I had no trouble.
I'm using this drive on SATA 3 Gb/sec, but it does support SATA 6 Gb/sec.
Plug and play, I didn't have any issues with detection or OS installation.

Cons: Not the fastest hard drive available in its price range.
8 MB, very low cache for a hard drive.
Only 5400 RPM.

Other Thoughts: I benchmarked this drive, using Crystal Disc Mark, at 88 MB/sec Sequential Read speed and 90 MB/sec Sequential Write speed with up to 4 GB file size in the mid sector of the drive. Very respectable speed for a budget drive.
This is a great drive if you're just looking to increase your storage or to replace a bad drive on a budget. If speed is your primary concern then you should probably get the Black series or an SSD. As long as cost and capacity isn't an issue.

Pros: amazing HDD! really improved the life and load times of my PS2 slim model! very impressed overall!

Cons: none that I can see.

Other Thoughts: I should have tried for a black model but meh! this drive not only allowed me to blast download data to it quicker, but even runs and loads games way smoother than the stock HDD

5 out of 5 eggsWD makes hd upgrade easy

This review is from: WD Blue 750GB Mobile 9.5 mm Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5 Inch - WD7500BPVX

Pros: The drive itself is really nice, performes well with no real problems to speak of. What sold me on this drive besides price was getting to use wd's acronis true image, it worked fantastically for cloning my original drive and made this hd upgrade easy and mostly risk free because my original drive and everything on it is left intact. Sweet!

Cons: None that I experienced.

Other Thoughts: If your wanting to upgrade your hd for more space like I did or perhaps better performance. don't be afraid, wd seems to have you covered. But definitely read the acronis true image PDF manual.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked fine

This review is from: WD Blue 750GB Mobile 9.5 mm Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5 Inch - WD7500BPVX

Pros: I got a great egg deal on this one. I shopped a few days and it appeared.

WD is all good. No worry. no troubles

It is backward compatible to older machines. Panasonic picked it up right away and did the install of the OS. Like a ten year old but not older than that. I worried it would not backward compatible for me, but it did. I probably has SATA I 3.0Gb/sec.

Cons: I really personally had no real use for it. I used it to try a test on a laptop with a mind to install it in some laptop I will sell.

Other Thoughts: HDDs are real cheap and real good these days>

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

This review is from: WD Blue 750GB Mobile 9.5 mm Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5 Inch - WD7500BPVX

Pros: None

Cons: This drive came standard in my MSI laptop.

After having this drive for a while, I noticed my laptop would freeze every ten minutes. At first I thought it was a problem with the laptop itself or that I potentially had a bad hard drive, but after I got a replacement HDD from MSI, I noticed the same problem was occurring.

After doing some research, I found out that this drive has a "green" feature hard coded into the firmware. What this feature does is shutoff the HDD every 10 or so minutes due to inactivity. For those of you who are composing a word document (which mostly runs from the RAM) you'll be hearing the HDD wind up every ten minutes, and whatever program you have open will freeze (because it's waiting for the drive to wind up and read). It's extremely frustrating and pointless in a HDD, not to mention constantly stopping and starting a HDD will cause it to fail quicker (some say by half). It is deplorable that this has become a standard industry practice, and I hope other HDD manufacturers are not following WD's example. If I wanted a "green" or "eco" drive, I would have bought one, instead I ended up replacing this drive with one out of an old (~5 years old) laptop. It's slow to boot, but it doesn't cause my programs to freeze and doesn't slow down my games at all (besides loading time, not a big deal). It's ironic that 5 year old technology can outperform this junk, how unfortunate for WD. I'm guessing that half of these "failures" listed in the review section for this drive are actually just the drive doing what it was programed to, but please take these negative reviews seriously!

Do not purchase this, go somewhere else. I recommend seagate, samsung or hitachi (not sure if they make laptop HDD but check!). These are truly the best brands, I've had every one and not a single failure or quirk. I've had the seagate for over seven years and it's been the best drive I've ever had (I'm of course referring to desktop HDD), but anything at this point is better than WD.

Other Thoughts: Buyer beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
