It also analyzes the length of the ethernet cables to adjust power usage. So the DGS-1024A switch uses less electricity, creates less heat, and lasts longer.

Getting excited? Then check out this switch and get your network up and running!

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1005G Gigabit Desktop Switch - Retail

Pros: not sure have not hooked it up yet, just opened it up and was confused to see a usb extender cord, so I have been spending the past 40 mins reading the manuals, checking the device for usb ports, and looking at its product page on here. im stumped. they gave me an extra cable? WHY AND HOW DID THEY KNOW SUCH A SIMPLE THING COULD DRIVE A MAN MAD WITH CONFUSION AS TO WHY ITS THERE!

Cons: Ill report back after using it, I assume it works so far, all my D-link purchases have been rewarding BUT WHY THE EXTRA CABLE DLINK WHY WHY WHY , did you know I needed an extender for my 2nd pcs game controler? HOWD YOU KNOW!?

5 out of 5 eggsGood Cheap Switch

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1005G Gigabit Desktop Switch - Retail

Pros: These are good cheap, silent, energy-efficient switches. We use this model at work, and I purchased it for home use because I ran out of ports on my router.

Cons: Wall mounting system is a little hard to work with. Its one of those with indentations on the bottom to hang screws in. Would have been better if they included a template.

5 out of 5 eggsEven Faster!

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1005G Gigabit Desktop Switch - Retail

Pros: Very fast
Nice, updated form factor.
Lights on top (instead of front)
Instant recognition on my network

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I purchased four of these switches (three 5 port and 1 8 port) to replace my aging D-Link switches. One of them is located in my home theater setup. I always had to hide the older switches behind something to avoid the blinking activity lights showing through - they were distracting while watching TV, a movie, etc. These new units have the lights on the top. You can still see the activity if you'd like, but this is a nice improvement. Along with the less industrial look, these switches can be used in a "public" setting now.

More importantly, it appears that throughput speeds have increased. I didn't test the older units before I got rid of them, but based on the download speeds with Netflix, A**zon Video, Apple TV, etc., there is a marked improvement.

If these last as long as my old D-Link switches (5+ years - and they were still operational), I'll be a very happy camper!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks without problem

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1005G Gigabit Desktop Switch - Retail

Pros: cat6, wired, home-network use is without any noticeable problem.
I also have the 8port version of this switch as a part of this same network.
I used them originally with an older dlink router, the 655, which was a classic router and worthy of praise, but over the course of the past year it simply became unstable. It was old, it moved from one house to a second house to a third house. It needed to retire. I used up its useful life.
Now my two dlink switches are being used with a new asus rtn66u and are performing without problem, enjoying the improved stability of the asus router. Dlink did not make a replacement for the awesome 655 or I would have stayed with dlink for a new router. Did I say that the 655 was an awesome classic router. the forums and communities gave my choice of the asus router great weight.

Cons: none for me

Other Thoughts: construction, weight, smallness, design, light indicators, all are favorable features. I love it when these things work when they are plugged in and attached to their network cables. dlink is dependable by my experience. trust this switch!

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1005G Gigabit Desktop Switch - Retail

Pros: Works perfectly out of the box. No problems of any kind. Nice little green/orange lights show through the top of the device. Very stylish, not brighter than they need to be. Green - 1000BaseT, Orange - 100BaseTX.

Cons: None -- works perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggsD-Link - good stuff

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1005G Gigabit Desktop Switch - Retail

Pros: Sleek, easy to use, love the energy saving feature

Cons: When I read 5 port, I expect to be able to plug in 5 devices and not use one port for incoming from router.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Network Switch

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1005G Gigabit Desktop Switch - Retail

Pros: I would like to thank everyone who post reviews here. They have been very helpful for me to make decisions.
Both switches powered ON the first time, and the computers on both switches took a few minutes to get on the Internet. This may due to being the first time going through these network switches.

Cons: Just before I replaced both switches, I was able to download from one computer, and still browse on another computer on the same switch. Now I notice that if I download from one computer, the other computer takes a l-o-n-g time to browse the internet. Not that big of a deal since I do most of my downloads after midnight.

Other Thoughts: Nice case design. Smoked plastic shell, amber lights to indicate network activity, green light for power. Switch can be wall mounted if necessary. Having 5 ports is nice, since 1 port connects to the router, leaving only 4 ports for the computers and other devices.
