1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: Cheap...but this should be a warning

Cons: I have used this switch for a total of 5 days. It worked fine for the first three, and then I noticed some connectivity issues. I took a look and realized it was turned off (which is odd, as it does not have a power button). I unplugged the switch and plugged it back in...it started working again.

A couple days later, I noticed it was off again. I tried to unplug it and plug it back in...it wouldn't turn back on. I tried different power cords, different outlets...the switch is dead. After less than a week.

5 out of 5 eggsDLNA device, media center goodness

Pros: Used this to replace a 4 port router on my media wall. Easy way to flatten out my network for 5 DLNA devices/servers and a CCTV DVR.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Probably going to end up getting more of these for other rooms. I just prefer wired for steaming media.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat deal on a simple switch

Pros: Price! I got this for $10 on Black Friday in 2009, free shipping.

8 ports, simple to set up, small enough to tuck out of the way behind my stereo in my entertainment center. Power and labeled line activity lights. Flat shape means you can stack other equipment on it if you like.

I've had up to 3 computers (usually just 2, but I've trouble-shot family computers and built my sister a new desktop in my bedroom, hooking them up to this little switch for network access), my TV, Blu Ray player and a WiFi adapter plugged in to it at once, all talking happily to each other and the main router on the other end of the house. Net speeds with this switch have never been anything less than stellar (we have a cable modem). In fact, I usually see significantly better speeds than my Dad, who simply plugs directly into the router, as it's in his bedroom. Of course, I tend to run my tests at 3am, since that's my go-time...

Rock-solid performance and reliability for 3 years, never had to re-cycle the power even once, unlike our old 10Mbps hub back-in-the-day. Had to reset that thing every DAY. Sometimes more than once.

Cons: Somewhat ugly to look at, but I tucked it away out of sight. Gets warm enough operating that I didn't particularly *want* to set anything else on top.

Not gigabit-capable. Not really a con, given it's not MEANT to be, and what I paid for it. However, it's not the most durable item. After 3 years, the port my TV was plugged in to stopped working. I could no longer access streaming video from the 'net, or check for software updates.

I plugged the TV's cat5 in to one of the 2 unused ports, which worked just fine. I was happy. Until a few weeks later, when suddenly my laptop was only connecting at 10Mbps on the LAN, and then the WiFi adapter's connection kept dropping out. Considering the escalating pattern of failure, I decided it was time to replace the unit. We haven't had any power surges/failures since LAST February, and all my electronics are on heavy-duty surge protectors (or a UPS), so there's not much chance the failure was caused by anything like that.

Other Thoughts: Last month, I ordered an 8-port gigabit switch (which were simply too expensive when I bought this unit) from another manufacturer and all is well again. None of the other hardware in my network has changed. Can't really fault a super-cheap item with a 1 year warranty for lasting 3. And I was rather planning to upgrade to a gigabit setup eventually, anyways.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked right away

Pros: Very inexpensive for sure!
My other brand lasted ten years and a month, hope this goes half that far!
Everything plugged in an operated right away, SIMPLE !

Cons: Power cord was only 3 feet!
How much does 3 more feet of wire cost?
Had to use an extension cord, -not a huge deal.

Other Thoughts: Serves my Purpose, but make keep shopping so I'm not caught off guard.
No real complaints.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great minor Box mis-labelling

Pros: Works great, cheap, easy setup. What else could you ask for?

Cons: None that I've figured out

Other Thoughts: I ordered two of these. One was the correct item. The other was the correct box, but with the wrong switch in it. It was Rosewill's 5 port switch instead of the 8 port. This was no issue because newegg's return policy is great. So no loss of eggs on this one.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Opened Newegg box. Took out product. Opened box. Installed and plugged in cables. Worked perfectly for the last 2 1/2 years without a single problem. Never locked up, never had to log into it other than assign it a static IP when necessary. 8 ports.

Cons: Not 1Gbps.

Other Thoughts: Best switch I've ever owned.
