2 out of 5 eggsSort of workied until warranty expired

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1024D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 24-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: It is a low cost switch. It has no fan so it is quite.

Cons: This switch is a high maintenance item. It was running on a network with six hi performance file servers. Frequently ports would shut down and and the switch would require a reboot. Ultimately the completely switch failed.

Other Thoughts: This switch is not for mission critical applications, nor is it for remote locations.

1 out of 5 eggsSwitch Corrupts Data

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1024D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 24-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: Appears to work out of the box.

Cons: This switch corrupts data, so it doesn't actually work. Superficially, it seems ok, however it corrupts fragmented IP packets. Network connections where packets become fragmented quietly hang.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet, works as expected

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1024D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 24-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: Lots of ports, low power, silent, rack mount brackets included. I plugged it in, connected ports, and it just worked. That is what I expect from a switch.

Cons: For desktop applications I would prefer wires on back and lights on front.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace a couple of smaller switches and provide room to expand. It uses 11 W with about 1/2 the ports filled according to my Kill-A-Watt. In fact, that is how much power it used when I plugged it in. I don't hear any fans. I don't run jumbo frames, so haven't tested that.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Unmanged Switch

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1024D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 24-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: Working fine without a glitch.
No need for power reboots.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I prefer the power plug to be in the the same side as the ports, but that's not a negative for me.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1024D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 24-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: Powered up and transferred data between connected devices.

Cons: Much slower speed than relative competitor models.

Other Thoughts: I had a *gear gigabit switch but needed more ports. I replaced it with this TP-LINK switch and I can no longer stream movies from my media server. The movie begins to playback just fine but then loses audio and freezes. I switched back to the old switch (everything else is the same, ie cables, hardware, etc.) and movies stream perfectly once again. I've tried switching ports on the new switch to no avail. I will be attempting to return this and get a bigger *gear.

Pros: -Plenty of ports

5 out of 5 eggsBuy it!

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1024D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 24-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: As an IT Professional I deal with many switches on a daily basis. I've been giving TP-LINK a chance at routers and corporate switches. This was installed for a school with over 120 workstations, multiple Servers, dozens of iPADS, Kindles, and hundreds of phones used by teachers, staff and students. This baby handles all the traffic really well. The switch does it's job and does so at half the price of any Cisco or Dell switch. I highly recommend you purchase it and give it a chance, you wont regret it.

Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggsWorks for eight months

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1024D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 24-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: It is a gigabit switch and it has 24 ports.

Cons: I bought a TP-LINK TL-SG1024D 24-port switch in January 2013. It worked well until about a week ago (August 2013) when I felt a significant slowdown in accessing the Internet. At first, I thought it was a temporary traffic jam in my area. The sluggish net speed continued for over a week. I started to think there might be a problem somewhere and decided to diagnose the problem on my side before I call the cable company (my Internet service provider). I recycled the power on the cable modem, router, and TP-switch, in that order to make sure that there is no interference among them, and the net speed went up to normal. I felt relieved that it was not a bigger problem somewhere else. The next morning, about twelve hours after I recycled the power on the three devices, I started experiencing the same problem again. I decided to recycle power on each device one at a time to pinpoint which device caused the problem, starting from the switch. Right after I recycle the power on the switch, the net speed went up to normal again. By now, I know it is the TP-LINK switch that has been malfunctioning from time to time, after only eight months of normal use.

I was disappointed at the quality of the brand and the product that I trusted and put my money on. What really baffled me is what I learned from the TP-LINK Customer Service Executive, Ms. Denise Serna, after I called in for the warranty service: She told me to pay $4.99 up front to get the Advanced Replacement Service. This charge is in addition to holding my credit card as the collateral. When asked whether I would get the money back once she received the defective switch from me, the answer was a definitive NO. The dollar amount is not a big deal, however, TP-LINK’s attitude and business philosophy really upset me: I put my trust and money on your brand just to get a defective product, and now I will have to pay for your fault? Worse, when I asked her why I had to pay for their mistake, she said she would go to another department for something and will call me back. I never got the call from here again and called her back 30 minutes later, just to learn that she had left work. I thought the reason you are an Executive is you make decisions, right? Why did she pretend to consult with another department? Why did she lie to me about calling me back? Just to avoid answering my questions? It shows what kind of people this company hires as Executives.

I have decided not to bother with TP-LINK’s RMA service and will order a new switch of another brand. Once I get it, I will simply through this TP-LINK product into trash, and will stay away from this Chinese company in future purchases.

Other Thoughts: If you do not want to experience what I have experienced, stay away from this Chinese company.
